Agreed
The notion of a pardon that “heals the country” may or may not have made some sense in Nixon’s case, but circumstances are different this time around for many reasons.
1. Trump didn’t resign and get the hell out of dodge when caught red-handed in Ukrainegate. He put the country through an impeachment, which indeed failed due to rampant GOP partisanship.
2. Trump obstructed and stymied the Mueller Report and made fitful efforts to “investigate the investigators” (“Obamagate”) which went nowhere.
3. The origins of “Hunter Biden’s Laptop” ought to be fully investigated.
4. The campaign of baseless voter fraud lawsuits that has no purpose but undermining faith in democracy and the next Administration. His other efforts to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power.
5. Much other corruption, abuse, self-dealing, etc. besides, and a lot we may not even know of yet.
6. Trump is constitutionally eligible to run for President again in ‘24 and would do so in a heartbeat if he thought there was anything in it for him. And he probably will. I’ve heard he intends to announce his ‘24 bid on the day of Biden’s inauguration. Probably an effort to make any efforts to hold him legally accountable look politically-motivated.
As I alluded to in another meme, Trump’s presidency makes Nixon look like go***mn George Washington.
“Healing the country” must involve restoring rule of law first and foremost.
