The OP quote (whether it’s a real one or not) pretty much goes straight to the heart of the problem of social media and the Information Age.
However: I doubt a famous, celebrated, and talented American author would be against the concept of reading and learning in general.
I think if Mark Twain were here today, he’d say we have difficult work to do in separating reality from fiction in a sea of politically-motivated disinformation.
But I doubt he would endorse the content on the front page of ImgFlip politics stream on any given day.
