I think he would have beat Gore without all the nonsense in Florida. I think he would have been a good President. I wouldn't have agreed with him on policies, but he was an honorable man and that goes a long way in my book.

I voted for him, first presidential ballot I ever cast.

Obama seemed good too but just didn't have the same qualifications or the decades of public service including military service. I was very opposed to the Iraq War, and disagreed with McCain on that but was willing to overlook it. Either Obama or McCain were good choices honestly. The vast majority in my college peer group had the Obama bug but I wasn't too concerned either way. 12 years ago I was also more politically naive, of course.

That Sarah Palin though. A canary in the coal mine for where the GOP was headed.

I'm a veteran, but I voted for Obama and I've always been opposed to the Iraq war; but McCain was a man I could respect as my Commander-in-chief. All that dogs#$@ that Trump did with McCain (even after he passed) really pisses me off. Trump doesn't have one family member who has served. I don't think a president HAS to have military experience, but, I like someone who is both smart and a good person (like Obama and McCain seem to be). BTW, great point about Palin.

Full agreement here. McCain was a genuine hero. Regarding Palin, I think a lot of the GOP mess can be traced to her and the Tea Party nonsense.

This was the last time I had a difficult decision to make with regards to a Presidential election. I wasn’t sold on Obama’s experience level and had always admired McCain, however, the Palin pick made it a non-starter.

I’m not going to lie; she was easy on the eyes but, man, she was dumber than a bag of hammers.

I’m also going to take exception to your canary analogy because the canary didn’t die...then again, maybe that’s the point?

Can't this series be called "Name that person with dignity and decency", to distinguish them from the real losers who are trying to destroy the fabric of democracy?

Lost an election, but definitely NOT a loser. Showed more grace and class in his concession speech than current president ever has.
