In my 6 years on online forums, the only one I knew of who committed suicide was this ultra witty exceedingly intelligent fella in the UK who gave no indication he was going to on the site, to his family, or his gf who posted the announcement. She had spent the weekend with him and there were no signs of it impending, although she said he had had some concerns living far from family and her and other issues.

That was on an Alt Rock site full of posts from suicidal Emos that true to their kind, have really bad aim.

Not only have we had a rising number of suicidals here, apparently I'm the Second Coming because supposedly I've caused a couple, yet they've returned days later to thank me for it.
And on that note, the Rapture begins this coming February, folks, so pack lightly!

They were very helpful to me when I texted them not long ago asking the same question you did. It's important to get an adult to help, some comments on such posts are not helpful. There was this conversation which is getting heated about suicide, transgenders, gays and lesbians. Mainly that person has been attacking people and say hurtful things. Ill send the link to the conversation as well

I might suggest they call someone to help talk them through. I probably would not do much more. But yes it's difficult.

I think the best action is to pretend you didn't see it, so indeed not respond at all, not even upvote or downvote. Warning the moderation staff like Kate suggests seems to best way to go. A lot of suicide outcries are merely outcries for attention, but even those outcries can have a serious underground behind them that you cannot underestimate, because if you do not take them seriously, you might get indirectly responsible for somebody becoming suicidal for real. At the same time confirming their outcries by responding can also work counterproductive. You should therefore know what you are doing when you respond. Allowing the staff to contact professionals to judge the meme/post/whatever is likely the best way to go.

Now you may have seen me ignore my own advice, but I have a lot of experience with human psychology in general. This is why I can sometimes try to get into investigation in general getting my self a kind of picture. If you don't have that kind of experience or expertise, then best to follow my advice.
