Just when you think they can't get any dumber... well, there they go again.
A fundamental reason for the life appointment is to make them apolitical, i.e. above or outside politics. If you want to argue that they're truly not, that's something to discuss. But giving them a term, will not keep, or make them apolitical.
Besides, you can damn well bet this bill will also have an angle to it that will allow democrats to be the ones to nominate new scotus justices when the existing justices' terms expire.
