The fact is that the words "liberal" and "conservative" are nothing but euphemisms that mean absolutely nothing on the political spectrum.

If you want a party that has always preached a logically-consistent narrative, vote for DR Jo Jorgensen in the 2020 Presidential Erection. Her PhD and her abundant experience in business are how we can tell that she really has the facts.

Want to know who's not getting elected in November?

Take a guess?

Any guess at all?

That's right! Jo Jorgensen!

I never said anything about electing her. The whole point of voting for her is to make folks want to cast even more votes for her in the future.

I don't think Libertarians will ever gain more than a toehold in politics. However that doesn't mean I disagree with many of their beliefs. I just think it's better to make my vote count and cast it for someone who has a chance of winning and that loop has no room for a third candidate sadly.

Trump is already very likely to win, but besides that, voting Libertarian now will cause more folks to want to vote Libertarian in the next election, as the LP will start to gain popularity. The number of popular votes received by Gary Johnson tripled between 2012 and 2016.

I think the Libertarians have a better shot at getting senators and house reps elected. If they can build their base there and expand then a shot at the presidency would make a lot more sense.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a Libertarian in office unless they went waaaaaaay isolationist but a president is limited in their power by Congress. Having a Libertarian force in Congress could actually effect some real change.

I didn't consider that, but that's a really good point. However, there are still many folks who only care about the presidential election polls. The presidential election polls might also increase the chances that we'll get a Libertarian House representative or congressfolk.

I would hope so. However there is a very real concern that Libertarian votes will chip away from a Republican candidate and lead to a Democrat victory. Continual Democrat victories will absolutely erode any shot the Libertarians have at making themselves known. Just look at how candidates like Kamala Harris (Democrat VP pick) intend to destroy the Constitution.

Yeah, but many folks are just voting for Biden because they think he's the lesser of the two evils. Those folks can take votes away from Biden by voting for Jorgensen instead. Besides, many Jorgensen voters are folks who would otherwise not vote at all. Even if we get a long enough streak of Democrats for your reason, everyone would realize that it's because the Libertarians are taking votes from the Republicans, which would only draw further attention to the LP.

I know, but the point is not to actually get DR Jo Jorgensen erected (as that's impossible); it's to promote the Libertarian Party so that it can compete more easily in the future. Just think about how much attention the LP would recieve even if only your state becomes a Jorgensen state. After all, it's not unlikely considering that she's the first female Libertarian candidate, which should at least take some votes away from the Democrats. Not to mention how the pandemic is causing many voters to hate both Trump and Biden. The first Libertarian president isn't going to erect itself; you have to contribute to the change, and in turn, you'll be seen in the future as an early pioneer of a revolution.

The reason third parties fight so hard is they get federal campaign money if they obtain a certain percentage of the popular vote. If you think that makes a difference, then you lost the game and are just playing politics. A politician is always going to be a politician. Do you think trump is really a republican? He found a way to beat the establishment because everyone was tired of where the Republican Party was. The libertarian party is behind the 8 ball. Infiltrate the Republican Party with your candidate and make it a 2 party vote, otherwise you're candidate will just take votes away from its most similar candidate while helping, and probably getting donations from, the farthest opposite platform.

That's how I used to look at it. But now, I realize that both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have the same agenda and that is to keep America under the control of big government. Trump is only different because the GOP wants to provide the illusion that it has improved. Without Trump, all we'd have is "RINOs" who were too moderate, which is what many Republican voters hated about George Bush JR, John McCain, and Mitt Romney. Meanwhile, the Democrats had to up their game in the early 2010s (likely to create the backlash that allowed Trump to thrive) by trying to support queer rights. If anything, DR Jo Jorgensen might end up taking more votes away from the Democrats because she's the first female Libertarian nominee, but even if she took votes away from Trump, it's just far too likely that Trump will win, anyways. And then, you have to remember how good it is in the long-run for there to be a third party. Voting for Trump will only impact this erection, while voting for DR Jo Jorgensen will have a lasting effect on the Libertarian Party's future, as that will bolster the time when we get our first Libertarian president.

BTW, are you an ex-Catholic? I asked because of your username.

If your description of the futility of the election is really how you feel, why bother? The reality of the voting population is they tend to stay in the middle because it's easier not to think for themselves and go with group think. All agendas do it. True libertarians want less government and more individual freedoms, but that will never be mainstream. A friend of mine said, when I was young I was a democrat because I had a heart, when I became an adult I was a republican because I had a brain, now I'm a libertarian because I just want to be left alone. There's just not enough people to make a difference because it requires more effort and understanding than the alternatives.

I'm glad that you can see that the Libertarians are wiser voters, but if the majority is going with group think, then by that logic, we need to promote the LP because the more Libertarian voters there are, the likelier it is for other folks to become Libertarians themselves. The growth will be exponential.

OK, but it's also unlikely to be a Trump state. Even if your state can't become a yellow state, voting for DR Jo Jorgensen still raises the percentage of Libertarian votes, which will get more Californians to vote Libertarian in future erections.

Well you are right there it won’t likely break for Trump but haven’t heard any Libertarian platform on current issues that would make me think they would be any better than Republicans, thou I grant you any libertarian is better than most Demorats

You're talking generations. America doesn't have time for that. Look at the power of big Tech censorship and manipulation, the elimination of the constitution, trying to stack the Scotus, eliminate the electoral college, etc. If Biden wins, and the Senate flips to blue, they will end the filibuster and likely have enough votes to amend whatever they want in the constitution. Then, parties won't matter, democrat's will forever be in control with just LA and NY City. And there won't be legal repercussions for any freedoms lost. So which fight are you in right now. This is the moment the democrats are risking everything to put hotels on boardwalk and park place and how it works out, it's all or nothing. What is it that makes you a libertarian?
1 up, 4y
The mainstream media used to make 2016 seem like the most important election in America's history, and I believed them because I was only 13 when Trump got erected. Now, instead of the hysteria being about Trump being a Fascist or woo wop da bam, it's about the Pandemic. Before (although I can't say so for certain because I was only 9), it was about terrorism and Mitt Romney being a Latter-Day Saint. I can guarantee you that 2024's Democrat is gonna be much worse than Joe Biden. If we all vote Libertarian, and thereby eventually get a Libertarian president, we can finally break out of that cycle. It's not even that likely that Biden is gonna win. I can totally see Trump winning by a landslide simply because of how enthusiastic most of his supporters are. Because many folks who hate Trump don't like Biden, they're probably not gonna vote at all. You might as well have them vote Libertarian, instead.

What makes me a Libertarian? Good question. I'm a Libertarian because, for a while, I've noticed that Trump is still a socialist. If he was a real capitalist, he'd want to not only reform but nearly dismantle the pyramid schemes known as healthcare, welfare, and social security. Meanwhile, altho the churches have to be tax-exempt because the government needs to preserve our faith in God (even tho the books of Kings show that government only corrupts religion), Trump wants to take down General Lee flags from all government buildings, despite the fact that those buildings are supposed to be culturally-consistent to their locations. Many Southern Trump supporters (especially those who fly General Lee flags at pro-Trump rallies) should be concerned about that breaching of the First Amendment. After a few years of studying the Political Compass and what Libertarianism is, I have started to agree with the Libertarian views on social issues such as drugs and sex.

I don’t know what libertarians believe on anything except “leave me alone” never see a platform or discussion.

What Libertarians want is both social freedom and economic freedom, often minimizing taxes. This means that usually:
They're pro-gun
They're pro-cannabis, and sometimes want to legalize all drugs
They're pro-prostitution
They want to give homosexual couples equal rights not by allowing them to marry, but by abolishing marriage licenses
They sometimes want not to reform but rather to completely dismantle healthcare, welfare, and social security, often seeing them as mandatory pyramid schemes
They don't want to give free stuff to immigrants nor ban immigration
They're anti-military (wars might be fought by private soldiers)
Instead of instilling laws to protect the environment, they want to defund every source of pollution that's already subsidized, including plastic, animal ag, and big pharma.

"Government will break your leg, hand you a pair of crutches, and say, "see, without us, you wouldn't be able to walk". The place to start isn't by taking away crutches; it's getting government to stop breaking legs." - DR Jo Jorgensen

I can agree with some things but some of the others are not my belief. I support Social Security and Welfare, though it certainly needs reform. I support a strong military it is naive in my opinion to e faced with China and others who wish to dominate us and assume private soldiers could defeat them. Who would control the private soldiers and what’s to stop them from taking over? Too many similarities to Anarchy for me. I would welcome a reasonable third party though.
1 up, 4y
I don't think any of the Libertarians are against fighting wars with China. I was talking more about the wars in the middle east. Using private militaries wouldn't be dependable until America is Libertarian for long enough.
