Agreed, I think it was a bad idea to implement this. Few real positives versus many ways to abuse it. Stream mods also get access to it, so they can disable comments on whatever images they want to in their streams. Apparently the kids are already going to town with it in their streams to troll or harass others. As for me, I'm keeping my political memes open, I love the debate and bickering, it's what got me hooked on Imgflip after all.

I remember when we first started, there was no idividual streams and we all had fun, now we fight, sometimes brawl, but if you didn't like it, you could leave, there are a few tards on here that all they do is troll and f**k around, but if you're here to talk shit, you gotta take shit too, I do. But hey, not my site, I'm just a tourist. Imgflip has always evolved, this recent evolution may be a miss, what's next?, I cant wait.

Ah, I miss those days. It was kinda the Wild West back then compared to today, but that was part of the charm. I miss the one main stream with only 2-3 submissions per day, it definitely helped with people thinking "Do I really want to waste my submissions on a throwaway image?" And yeah, we all talked shit to each other, especially on politics, but we were still all friends at the end of the day. I really do miss that. That's something we understood back then, but the new generation here either doesn't realize they always have to be at each others' throats or just can't or won't reach out with the olive branch. It's not a unified community anymore, it's just everyone in their own little cliques like some sort of online high school lunchroom. At least when we were all pushed together, we were able to bond over something which unified us, and we were all stronger for it.

Simply put: the years users like SMES and I have put into Imgflip has given us a broader perspective of what this site has been and has become that you just don't have and won't have until you've put some years under your belt here. We've seen this site in its golden age back in 2016, seen the fallout of the 2016 election, the Downvote Wars of 2017, and the split of the main stream into fun and politics. Plus, being a Community Mod means I see the inner workings of the site which gives a much bigger perspective of the community and the site as a whole. I've seen how bad things have gotten between Right and Left, kids and adults, kids and kids, you name it. Disabling comments hasn't even been a thing for 2 days and it's already being used and abused. Keeping this feature around will only widen the already massive gap between users of different opinions and cliques leading to further isolation and eventual radicalization. After all, if someone can't call you out on the crap you're posting, you will only keep going down the rabbit hole towards the inevitable conclusion: alt-right vs communists which is good for absolutely no one. But we also have to keep in mind to try and avoid tactics such as being overly aggressive towards the other side or making private streams to ridicule your opponents, because that only pushes people further into their cliques and prevents any meaningful dialogue. Conservatives and leftists have a major gap to cross and we can only do that through either compromise and dialogue or through war between two factions. Personally, I prefer the former, don't you agree?

Yeah, it seems to work. With the disable comment function being available from the edit screen.
I will try turning comments on once it gets featured to see if the functionality may be for when people get a bit carried away, like when the trolls come pointing fingers at users they claim they knew from other websites and harassing users for who knows what gain.
I have a feeling that this is why it now exists but we will see if turning on is possible and therefore in support of that theory.
