I have no knowledge that any such “politics” meme has ever been unfeatured for being factually baseless. The case for unfeaturing them on that basis would be much stronger.

Okay, I will have to read that letter you screenshot when I got the time (as I am working right now). At least, I got something now to dig through so I can at least verify the claim. I know that deleting memes like these would get the accusation stronger and even lead to the accusation of censoring. However being well-versed about the law I know that if these accusations cannot be proven, we'd speak of defamation which is also a crime. When it comes in making things stronger, if Trump is proven to be innocent of the accusation done (that's to court to decide after all), it will make the Trump camp stronger, and then the "liberals" can have trouble to be taken seriously in the future, so these accusations do not just damage Trump.

But for me this was not about Trump. I've seen lives getting ruined because of such false accusations and I have a strong sense of justice even to the people I don't like (and I don't like Trump). Even people I loathe so much that I must resist the temptation to kill them (Trump is not on that list, and it was rather a figure of speech) I will stand up for if accusations like these are not based on actual backup. At the same time Trump has always triumphed with false accusations he made of his own, but if we wanna stay credible, we should not scoop to that level.

Other thing I'll mention: When you are a politician, let alone the leader of the free world, it's tough to sue for defamation. Principles of free speech necessitate that we afford wide latitude to citizens to criticize the people who are governing them. Even if that criticism turns out to be inaccurate.

However, even politicians can potentially sue for defamation. The case has to be strong, however, and can't be negated by truth, since truth is an absolute defense to any claim of defamation.

Trump has publicly threatened to sue the New York Times, etc. for media coverage that he thought wasn't flattering enough (basically).

Relatedly but slightly different, Trump has threatened to shut down Tik-Tok via executive order, ostensibly because of its Chinese connection, but perhaps in retaliation because many users of this platform banded together and interfered with his Tulsa rally. (There are also several prominent Tik-Tokkers who mock Trump on a regular basis, to outstanding effect). To my knowledge, Trump is the first President to ever use the bully pulpit in this way to attempt to chill and censor criticism against him.

However, he hasn't touched the accusations of pedophilia against him with a 10-foot pole. Probably because any filing any defamation suit regarding these accusations would, in effect, result in a rape trial for him. That's the last thing he wants.

Free speech is not the right to commit defamation, and politicians are protected by laws banning that as well. For a judge who is really independent, the fact that either the accuser or the defendant may be a politician or even be a president may not be of any importance at all.

Now defamation in sex related cases, is very hard in general. According to jurists who specialized in sexual abuse, proving somebody guilty is hard, but proving innocent is hard as well. For defamation innocence must be proven, yet if Trump believes he has a strong case proving his innocence (charging for defamation when you are guilty even though unproven is very risky), and the money claims you can get on your head should defamation be proven, can be very high, especially when it handles a leader of a nation, and of course, when Trump is no longer president he's still a businessman, and charges like these won't affect his business well, and dang, that could be one hell of a price to pay if that is claimed in money. I personally would not like to risk a defamation charge from somebody in a position like Trump's.

Of course the "fake news" claims on some media coverage, and the ban on TikTok, which is very likely based on some videos ridiculing him (the Dutch news showed them yesterday, they were hillarious) are pathetic. Of course, if those TikTok videos the news showed are the reason behind the ban, we can't speak of defamation (and thus bringing up China spying which is a lot more credible) as that's only a joke. A false accusation of sexual abuse of minors... that's not a joke. That's why I don't wanna compare the TikTok ban to this.

Indeed, if he charges the "victims" (we don't know for sure if they are unless proven, so that's why I use quotes until there is a conviction by court) are indeed false, a defamation suit could be won by Trump, but have political (and business) effects for him that can indeed ruin him even more. The fact that he never denied the claims either, do not prove he's guilty however. It is possible he already has a lawyer on this who advised him not to do anything until the lawyer says so, and although we know Trump is not keep to follow good advice, there's always a chance he did follow it this time. If I were Trump I'd already have spoken to a lawyer about those accusations, to be honest.... But hey, I am not Trump (and happy about that), and I can't read that man's mind....

Don't "welcome to the internet" me.... I've been on the internet since before most of imgflip's members were born. I came to the internet when it was still a luxury product. And therefore I also know how toxic false accusations over the internet can be. And especially when it comes to sexual abuse of minors. And false accusations about sexual abuse are actually worse than the abuse itself. I've seen lives being ruined based on such false accusations, even to the point of people committing suicide. This being the internet is no excuse to make false accusations. Not even towards an incompetent president.
And yes, Trump has by law the right to sue your for this and freedom of speech won't save you then. That only counts for opinions, and it doesn't give you the right to utter false accusations based on unofficial sources. The constitution will therefore not save you here.

So unless you've official sources backing this accusation up, I recommend you to remove it. (And I've already sent a notice to the site moderators).
