My daddy had the best laugh. I loved hearing it!
He also introduced to some great books when I was a child. I credit him for my love of reading, which in turn inspired me to become an author.

I always love doing anything with my dad. I feel like he understands me more than anyone, and he is just great to be around. I really like when we go fishing together or just sit down for a family movie.

I really don’t have a lot of happy memories of him, since he’s an active alcoholic, and abandoned me at age 8. Maybe that he took me to a resort in Michigan?

I'm sorry to hear that about your dad. Its sad that sometimes men aren't the fathers they should be most likely because they did not have a good father to teach them how. The resort sounds fun. It's best to remember as much good as you can even if it's few and far

Aside from that, I have lots of fond memories of my dad, blessed to still have him.

The time we stayed up for hours in the middle of the night while backpacking due to a leaky tent and a relentless downpour. No telling how many times we sopped up and wrung out our bandanas to get the endless amount of rainwater out of our tent. Then proceeded to take half the stuff out of my pack the next day and add it to his because I was too tired. I was maybe 10 at the time.

The time he showed me his letter of retirement, which indicated the reason for retirement being to take on full time care of my grandfather during his last weeks.

Seeing him not only attempt but successfully BE the dad my wife never had, and show her what a real father figure is. She only ever knew the "fathers" in her life to be abusers, abandoners, and deadbeats, and he redeemed that for her.

It's a long list, I'm very blessed.

Aww. He sounds like a great man who raised a wonderful son! Your little girl is so blessed to have you as a dad. And your wife is now blessed to have 2 real men in her life who truly love her.

My dad took me out to a desolate empty field with a rock. Pulled me out of my 12th birthday party. Before the cake. A cold, dreary rainy day. The ground was soggy. A pale mist covered all.

"You're a man now", he stated as he opened the bottle of whiskey. I took my first slug ever, cringing, as the fire water scorched down my belly.

Chugging the bottle, he explained hid dad took him to this spot. To see his dad pathetically drunk.

He tried to start a fire with two sticks. Told me my mom was a w**re. He killed a guy apparently. But it was a misunderstanding. He demanded my report card. Didn't understand I didn't currently possess it.

Then he howled like a wolf, laid down threw me the car keys and told me to leave, nestling the rock as he fell asleep.

I walked for 30 minutes until I found a house with someone that could drive me home.

When I got back, all my friends were gone and my mom asked if I felt older. "Yeah, mom, I feel real old", I replied.

Good times.

I have so many memories of my dad. But a recurring one is that he makes dad jokes, and I do too. He loves it cuz sure his other kids do them too, but im the one at home and I get all his jokes and add to them. Its so much fun. I also do sailing, he tries to teach me French, etc... I love my dad with all my heart!

Mine is probably a daddy-daughter dance I went to about seven or eight years ago. Just a really sweet night, he really showed me how I should be treated, and how a gentleman should act. He took me out to dinner, and at the dance, we had a blast. Other than that, probably just all of my conversations with him. I know it's general, but he is the number one person I can nerd out with, and he is willing to talk about things in the future, which my mom doesn't always. But yes, there's a lot more and I do love and cherish each and every memory with him.

My dad and I used to play this WW2 board game together. It was fun (and terribly complicated) and I learned a lot of history from it. He and I are both really into that stuff.

That sounds like a fun way to learn history! Do you remember the name of the game? Sounds like something my dad would like.

At Thanksgiving 1979, I went home from my Philly college for the long weekend. When I got there, my father asked me how long I thought the Iran hostage crisis would last. It was the first time he asked my opinion on an adult topic. He was proud of me his whole life and so I've never had a moment in my life where I didn't feel grounded and at least fairly confident.

He sounds like a great man. It must have meant alot when he started talking to you as man to man.

tbh he's really fun, he's the one that really gets that I work hard. My sisters love making him laugh, I think it gives them the feeling of power lol

How did it feel when you found out you were adopted. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

I didn't find out, I was 4 so I remember everything. But to answer your question I was the happiest kid alive. 🤗

That's nice to hear. I can't relate, but I think it would be the best to meet your new dad after getting adopted.

I dont know my real dad, so my earliest memories are of me with my maternal grandpa. He was relly nice with me, and would always play with me. He taught me how to play guitar, he would watch TV with me, but my favorite memories are of me and him going to this really cheap movie theater.

This one particular time, he brought more money than usual, and he let me get popcorn, a drink and some candy. There was a claw machine filled with cheap plushies, and I tugged on his arm and said that I wanted one. He usually told me they were just scams, but this time he went and tried to win me something. He actually got a small pink koala thing (I still have it to this day) and I remember cuddling it while we watched the movie together. Afterwards, before my grandma got back home (she wasnt retired yet, and she would always be back home late becuase it was such a long drive) he took me to this Chinese restaurant. It's actually my favorite, and it still is to this day (the manager is nice and really likes me for some reason- she says Im pretty- and let me tell you, after being called ugly all day long, being called pretty by an old asian woman who makes the best food in the world is the best feeling ever) but anyways, its a buffet, so we both ate all day long. I asked him what the occasion was, why it was so special, and he just patted my head, "No occasion, mi hija. I just love you."
