Upvote! Both Biden and the Clintons were very close to him, and he was also a high ranking member of the US Senate.

But yes, practice selective racism by taking down Lee's statues.

Oh, wait.

No, they aren't. They're notoriously stubborn and cantankerous.

In that case you could put it down to the fact that he was ascending the political ladder and wanted to distance himself from possible scandal.

And by the way he opposed desegregation and the civil rights act in 1964.

He only distanced himself when he ran for office. Why are you defending a klansman?

If you renounce the Klan in words but continue to support them in practice you haven't really renounced anything have you?

Ok, so by that rationale, if Donald Trump says he was wrong to try and build a wall on the Mexican border, but then continues to accrue funding and continues to construct it, then he still gets moral credit for saying he was wrong.

Your mental gymnastics could win gold in the next Olympics; they're spectacular.

I know he didn't say it, that's why I used the qualifier "if".

And the fact that Byrd is dead is completely irrelevant.

"People like you want everyone to believe he was a Klansman until he died."

So kind of like when Trump haters keep bringing up old crap with women and how he talked about them?

To be fair, he isn't lying about Rosie O'Donnell.

Years ago. Where's the redemption?? :)

She is a pig. A revolting, foul mouthed, overweight, blow hard who is so blinded by her hatred of someone who opposed Saint Hillary that she will gladly embrace being called irrational in favour of conceding that she might not be entirely correct.

No one cares what he says, they care what he DOES. And what he does is very productive.

You do, yes, because as we've established in the case of Mr Byrd, you think what people say outweighs the importance of what they do.

You were perfectly willing to take his denunciation of the Klan at face value, and praise him for it, despite the fact that he continued to follow and perpetuate an anti-black political agenda.

But what matters is that he said he was sorry, right?

Trump has lowered black unemployment to its lowest level is US history; (Obama raised it to its highest, 16% and then said "this is the new normal; we may have to get used to it")

Created the First Step Act to help recently paroled and released prisoners find work; leading him to be praised by numerous black community leaders, among them Pastor Daryl Scott, who called Trump "the most pro-black president in history"

Made serious criminal justice reforms that unfairly targeted minority groups (the original racist legislation was mostly written by Joe Biden);

Has commuted the sentences of four different BLACK WOMEN who were unfairly sentenced on their first offences;

That's not even close to a complete list. How does all that equate to less than verbal apology for a career of literal racism?

I can't wait to hear this.

What racism is Trump guilty of?

Well, that's simple. Byrd was a politician, life-long...he would do and say anything to get, keep , and maintain power. If politics demanded that he wear a tutu, he would wear a tutu. If politics demanded that he wear his underwear on the outside of his suit, you could count on him showing up with his tightywhities in plain view. If politics demanded that he publicly denounce his mother as a New Orleans w**re, you guessed it, he would call her Lulu White, the madam of Storyville. He would sell his soul to the devil to stay in power.

Trump won't. He just keeps on being himself, unapologetically.
