BWAHAHAHAHA about the BDC deaths, I even checked the link for the 1st one just in case.

It was a 5 story elongated building, and we were on the 5th floor. We were told never to got out the elevator on the 4th floor. The 4th had residents and it was really sad, and they were potentially dangerous as they were severe cases. So you never know what might have occurred there.
Bronx Psychiatric Center was on the same grounds, and was a far taller building. Heard that was even worse.
2 ups, 4y
Sorry, I almost didn't but the laughter overruled me. Yeah, I forgot to include the 4 years part. T'was a callback to your 'abort 'em so we don't have to kill 'em' 'stance'.

Plus, you love links.

As badly as psych wards were run, at least until the 70's and I imagine it was truly disgusting, the erosion of them have impacted society. I'm kinda fascinated by lobotomies and how that harrowing practice use to be acceptable. Just ram the ice pick through the orbital bone and start haphazardly scratching away.
2 ups, 4y,
1 reply
hahaha, I forgot that stance of mine. I have the feeling the way I said it sounded way clunky.

BDC was built as part of the response to Geraldo Rivera's expose on Willobrook, the asylum from hell. He was like a Patron Saint to us. This being before his later buffoonery on tv, but just for the impact he had with that story, the man done more good than most of us can ever dream to do in a lifetime.
2 ups, 4y
I admired that you were the only abortionist here that justified your stance. No muh clump o' cells there. ;)

I remember you mentioning that. That recent example of the autistic guy repeatedly punching the elderly guy reminded me of it. Yeah, that's a good example of actual good journalism. I remember 60 minutes had really good storie as well. I liked john Stossel.
2 ups, 4y
OH NO YOU DIHN'T!
2 ups, 4y
It's not that I'm an abortionist (or any particular -ist for that matter, I hope), or pro-abortion or whatever, just that I'm not exactly anti-abortion anymore either. There's just too many people and what better way to reduce the population than by getting rid of the unwanted rather than them fighting with the wanted for increasingly limited resources.

Just look at this pandemic. Saw yesterday on the news how many Americans are becoming more vegetarian because meat is harder to find and more expensive.
Meantime those producing said meat are facing falling prices from less demand because apparently they don't know how to convert the pork that's turned into mystery meat for cafeterias into regular-ish meat we buy in stores. So facing declining profits, they're killing what they got and none of that for sale and going to produce less in the near future. Think Covid is bad? Check how we're doing this time next year when there's less food to eat period. An uptick of that, a hurricane or two, some other disaster, and we got billions on the brink.
With 70% of the food Planet Welfare depends on grown in the USA, we might not need a Yellowstone to blow for mass starvation. In what, two years' time rats could be driven to extinction because you can't eat politicians' speeches on tv,,,

Most people shouldn't be having kids, and the ones who don't want them to start with are not going to improve on their parenting abilities if forced to have them. Sounds horrible, but so does starving to death because the stores got burnt down by hoodlums who grew up in garbage as garbage and so want to turn everything that isn't garbage into garbage because that's what they know and that's the ultimate equalizer.

I've resisted the "Trump cult" language for most of his presidency, but it's beginning to look more and more like one. So, I call a spade a spade.

The personal and psychological identification with Trump by Righties is off the charts: Way beyond anything Obama enjoyed.

There's nothing like it on the Left, really. Many Democrats are quite lukewarm on Biden, just as they were on HRC in '16. But I predict they'll fall in line to support him in order to see Trump removed. This is my meme poking fun at the notion of Biden as a cult figure.

As for Trump?

--On a personal level, he's an egotist.
--His Twitter feed is off the wall and frequently an outlet for persecuting political enemies and peddling disinformation. He got flagged by Twitter for the looting/shooting comment that was straight out of the mouth of a racist Miami sheriff from the late-60's: Good for them.
--Trump has reshaped the GOP in his image in a very short time. It's a very different Party than it was even five years ago, when its priorities were relatively wonkish: Obamacare repeal, entitlement reform, deficit reduction. The "Party of Paul Ryan," basically. Now it's the Party of Build That Wall and Lock Her Up. And its rhyming variants: Lock Up The Bidens, Lock Up Obama, etc. It's a revolving cast of characters based on the needs of the day. None of it supported by anything substantial.
--Bypassing the institutional knowledge of the Party, Trump staffs family members and compliant loyalists who owe their entire political fortunes to him wherever possible.
--Trump fires whistleblowers and is applauded.
--The "adults in the room" keep leaving the building, whether it's leaving Trump's Administration or the GOP as a whole; only a few remain. Some of them are getting more outspoken in their criticism (Mattis, Powell). Romney is marching with BLM. Good for them.
--The overall behavior of ImgFlip conservatives, which I take as a rough approximation of the current pulse of the GOP rank-and-file, ain't all there.
--There's a near-total inability of Trump's supporters to entertain any criticism of him.
--News headlines and entire news organizations are dismissed out of hand as fake outlets with an agenda just to bring him down.

Anyway. I'm far from the first to use the "cult" terminology. At this stage of his presidency, he's earned it in my book.

That said: #NotAllTrumpSupporters. You can support Trump and be a decent human being. I have them in my family and I'm friends with several.

The main case on this point is NY Times v. Sullivan (1964). I know I’ve linked it before, but here it is again.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Times_Co._v._Sullivan

Or, for those who “don’t do links”: Check the summary above.

I think it would be unlikely for Trump to prevail in any action for libel. He is a public official — the *most* public official, in fact — and he’s responsible on a daily basis for decisions affecting the lives of millions.

If the sitting POTUS could sue media companies or individual Americans for libel, then we wouldn’t have much of a First Amendment or much of a country anymore.

He doesn’t really understand that, but anyone else with a brain does. As do his own lawyers probably, since his threats of suing newspapers have never come to anything. The cease-and-desist letter his campaign sent this week over a CNN poll he didn’t like went straight into the trash can.

As far as Kylie M.: she’s a well-known celebrity, but not an office-holder. It could go either way. But I’m afraid this case will never be settled once and for all as you seek unless or until Kylie Minogue herself pursues any legal rights she may or may not have against ImgFlip.

Until that day comes, the only entity capable of placing ImgFlip in legal jeopardy for libel is ImgFlip itself.

That should not be necessary, however, because the content we’re talking about violates ImgFlip’s own TOS six ways to Sunday under any proper reading.

But my own opinion does not account for much: I am just an anonymous memer who may or may not be a lawyer.

*Neither this message nor any others I have offered on this site establish an attorney-client relationship.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm asking here. I'm not asking about how it would proceed in the courts or your opinion on how that court case would proceed. I don't pretend to be a lawyer online, but I'm not totally averse to copyright law and libel/slander/defamation and I think we both know both cases would fall flat on their faces. I'm asking if you are equally outraged about Trump being covered in STDs and cum as you are when it comes to Minogue.

1. Will you rail against this slander (I'm using the term fairly hyperbolically) against Trump as you would Minogue or is orange man bad? A former or latter response will be sufficient to answer this question.

2. According to you, does it violate Imgflip TOS? A yes or no will do here.

tl;dr: Slandering politicians is fundamentally different than slandering private citizens.

Longer answer: I'm not much of a fan of body-based humor or hateful alterations of anyone. Even the President, though I oppose him. I find there are much better ways of making these points. Obviously, there are many on the Left and Right both who disagree with me.

But if a meme like that were submitted to political_jokes, I would probably reject it, or unfeature it later. (I haven't decided whether to have those settings on auto-approve.) That is just a stream Mod's prerogative.

As for whether it violates ImgFlip TOS as a whole: It seems to me that ImgFlip TOS gets... ahem... "flexed" when it comes to political topics. Understandable: Politics generates strong feelings and insults and disagreement. Again I feel in general, there should be a wide scope for free speech about our elected leaders that govern us. It is our way of holding them accountable as citizens.

But calling for violence against our leaders or others is a different story. I have flagged images that suggested violence: Some of them have been unfeatured, some haven't.

Here's one that wasn't. I think that was the wrong call and that a meme like this is actually worse than most of purgey's stuff.

But when it comes to the general politics stream, I'm more concerned about content like this than a photoshopped image of Trump with a large ass or even a contorted Greta face or whatever.
[deleted] M
2 ups, 4y
Alright, I'll give you an upvote for honesty.

As for TOS and politics, since politics is always a touchy subject no matter who you are, the TOS is indeed bent to accomodate more people and discussion. This bending of the rules also extends to other political streams like politicsTOO, FirearmFriendly, or conservatives. But breaking it is still a no no. I didn't see the original meme of the image you posted in your comment, but it definitely breaks TOS.
1 up, 4y,

People incite violence against 'groups' every day. Especially Trump supporters. I meme about chucking commies out of helicopters cuz meme. Never have, probably never will.

Politicstoo standards apply now? The slightest edge is now verboten? I KNOW you are a free thinker. What gives, ol' chap?
[deleted] M
1 up, 4y
"Politicstoo standards apply now?"

I think you read that backwards. The site TOS as well as the allowance of bending the TOS within reason applies to politicsTOO, not the politicsTOO stream rules applying to the wider site. Same with inciting violence, the TOS can be bent within reason. The Holocaust, while not really allowed on the fun stream, fits in perfectly on the Dark Humour stream. Calling for lynching blacks like I've seen Purgeboy do isn't usually going to fly anywhere on the site. It also depends on the potential for the image's comment section to erupt into flame wars. I've never personally done it, but memes have been unfeatured that technically break TOS but would fly anyway under the politics stream because the comment section devolves into a giant flame war.

It ain't what you did, I'm just weird like that about some things.

We had to do like 40hrs volunteer work to graduate from hs, and I picked a program (Respite) with autistic kids because it was the closest to where I live plus in this 'futuristic' looking building (Bronx Developmental Center) I was fascinated with.
I then proceeded to not go because I figure it'd depressed me until it was getting under 2 months to go before g-day. So I had to do 3 days a week (as opposed to the usual 1) to catch up.
Thinking I wouldn't make it through the 1st day, I ended up volunteering there for 4 years.

Now there’s an oxymoron: forced volunteer work. I say good on you for doing some volunteer work you enjoy. However, forcing kids to do volunteer work in order to graduate seems a bit arbitrary to me. I don’t really see how volunteer work has to do with completing their education.

I don't want to seem like I was patting myself on the back, was just an example how overcoming discomforts/challenges/phobias... might be not just doable, but turn out to be a better experience than we expected. It also later lead to a couple of jobs that recruited from the volunteers.

Maybe the volunteer thing was a Catholic school thing? We had to do the same (less hours, like 10) in 8th grade too. That was easy - me and a friend/classmate raked the leaves from his relatives yard a couple of times and we were done, hahahaha
1 up, 4y

It’s for all schooling, public or private. I had to do the same volun-made stuff too. I got it out of the way pretty early too, volunteered for a couple local political campaigns in 2012, merged into volunteering for the Obama campaign. Definitely stoked my interest in politics. Not saying it’s necessarily all bad, I just don’t think it should be a requirement for graduation. I think it would be better suited as a way to earn extra credits instead.
1 up, 4y
I dunno, to me, in retrospect, forced volunteer work for students may be a good thing. We're forced to go to school (something kids all hated prior to the lockdown, haha) itself, and kids are selfish and lazy. So getting them to do something for free can be productive in multiple ways, and can lead to new avenues.
