There would be people who would try and exploit that

No. There are way too many things that could go wrong. I know it's just a teen book series, but the divergent series kind of points this out and shows the mess that had to be cleaned up.

Where is the borderline? It sounds noble when we can remove the gene that causes cancer, but from there we may also wanna remove the gene that could cause low intelligence, or autism or whatever, and then we come to the point that we may create the übermensch... The thought scares me. Can I then also say I want my daughter to have blonde hair? I want my son to have a talent for soccer? Etc. I'm horrified by the thought to be honest. We've gone far in medical science, but there is a limit for when it goes too far... And then I'm not even yet speaking of the risks of mutations with horrible results.

Yes, also: Ubermensch means super man right?

"Über" means "over" or "above" and "mensch" mean "human". So yeah, I guess "super human" would be a good English term to define that word. Since the term originated in Nazi Germany, it's a term in the German language, and loads of people still use that term in the German language, although the term has exceeded the nazi meaning already.

Ah, yes, Nazi Germany. Why am I not surprised that's where it came from

I guess it was kinda obvious, eh.... The term is nowadays used a lot to refer to the "perfect human" created through genetics, either artificially, or by making sure the "best humans" "breed" with each other (that idea revolts me, actually). I guess it is obvious that as soon as the term "übermensch" in mentioned people easily get revolted....

Of course, the question is... what is the übermensch? What properties should the übermensch have? I guess the answers will be different depending on whom you ask. It is one of the terms that make people allergic to the thought of genetic manipulation on humans in general.

That would ve wonderful with regard to mental illnesses but the solution will unfortunately be a long way off.

With that said, there is a more simple solution to societal degeneracy and its simpy a return to morality, but it's not merely an acceptance and personal adherence to the Golden Rule. Society must have a high standard of morality in order to inspire and establish proactive introspection, high level of work ethic, and encourage and hold each other accountable.

Moral degeneracy always starts with ethical compromise.

The problem is that not everyone would agree, and as of yet, there is no unifying code of ethics that is strong enough for all to adhere to with zeal philisophical//ideological/religious zeal.

Historically, we don't see very much of a pure example of a decadent people changed but nevertheless can see a profound change of mentality and practices from one worldview to another. It often comes in two phases:

1. Doctrine/Highly Charismatic Personality
2. By Legislation/Force of Arms

Obviously, force of arms is out of the question here so we're left with doctrine and legislation, . What we're left with is only. Conservatives oppose legislation fearing Progressive Communism and Liberals fear Theocracy.

So how does one transform a society without threats of violence and legel oppression? We have to debate what ethics we want to adopt for the whole.

And when there is a winner, we must all promise to uphold and teach it to our children from generation to generation until it becomes a tradition.

Hey, isn't that picture from Demolition Man? I remember that movie well. Watched it dozens of times when I was young. The swearing tickets that would just come out of those things on the walls were hilarious. When you gotta wipe, just swear a ton and you have yourself plenty of toilet paper to use. The three seashells thing sounds fishy to me, no pun intended there.

There was a really really racist scene in that movie and it just blows my freaking mind that it was acceptable back then...the part where Wesley Snipes is in that museum and some Asian people walk by and he goes "ching chong ching chong"...just so inappropriate, but I'll admit, I laughed at it and still do. Sorry, some racism is humorous, even if it is technically "wrong".

Cheers!!!
