Sermon on the Mount | image tagged in sermon on the mount | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Christianity is for all. But in his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was emphasizing spiritual comfort for disadvantaged people specifically.

This is the general principle that motivates a statement like "Black Lives Matter." It's not saying other lives don't matter. It's insisting that Black Lives Matter *too.*

All black people in America aren't poor, but many of them are and they seem to be the most at-risk for police brutality. There are both income and race-based issues at play.

That said, whites and other races are victimized by police as well and police reform would benefit all citizens.

We all have an interest in making the world a better place.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit", let's try and take the whole quote here for a second. This isn't referring to those that are financially poor like you seem to be thinking, it's referring to those who recognize that without God, they are spiritually a mess (poor in spirit).
Black Lives Matter is trying to say that some people should receive special treatment just because their skin color is black. Peoples' value doesn't come from their skin color, it comes from that they are human, hence "all lives matter".

Camel eye of a needle verse | image tagged in camel eye of a needle verse | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
We know that Jesus stood alongside the poor, the sick, the elderly, women, prostitutes, the persecuted, the downtrodden, the marginalized. And that he said things like the verse in the meme.

Jesus challenged the conservative teachings of the Pharisees and, implicitly, the authority of the Roman Empire. Which is why he was persecuted and crucified.

Despite the fact Jesus said things like “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” and “I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets,” both groups realized the threat he posed to their authority.

Tl;dr: Jesus was a total flippin’ Hippie

The teachings of the Pharisees were not conservative by the standards of what God originally setup as the Law. They had deviated from the true purpose of the Law by adding onto it hundreds and hundreds of lesser rules, regulations, and nuances. That's why they opposed Christ; they ignored the teachings of the prophets who talked about Jesus' coming.

Please do not refer to my Lord and Savior as "hippie".

The thrust of Jesus’s teachings was pro-love, peace, charity, kindness, respect,
tolerance, and leniency. In my opinion.

Compare or contrast with any ancient or modern religious or political movement as you find suitable.

Wasn't so peaceful when He chased out the moneylenders in the synagogue.

And He came to fulfil the law, not change it.

Ooh. This is a fun verse.

Query: Was this a “riot”?

It appears no one was injured, but struggling small business owners may have been economically disrupted.

Jesus was not too keen on capitalism, it appears.

Small businesses who were wrongfully in the House of God were disrupted, yes. I think it's safe to say that none of today's rioters are trying to preserve the sanctity of a church.

Jesus had no problem with capitalism. He was opposed to socialism, which is fundamentally stealing from those who work hard and redistributing wealth to those who don't work hard. He did tell people to share what they had with the less fortunate, but he never supported a government takeover and control of all money.
0 ups, 4y
Well, in your telling it sounds like Jesus was a middle-of-the-road moderate Democrat. He did support paying taxes — ”render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” — after all, which places him firmly within the blue sliver of this pie chart.

Except for that Temple riot thing, which was a pretty anti-free market thing of him to do.

Honesty, Jesus didn’t have a very well-developed economic system that I know of, but there’s a noticeable trend in his sayings against the concept of hoarding wealth.
1 up, 4y
Oh please. These weren't struggling small business owners. These were people who cheated others out of their money (which is why they were known as "swindlers").
And in any case, the temple was NOT place for a market. It was to be a place of worship. So maybe next time you can read and understand all aspects of the verse before you try and tell me what Jesus stood for.

Turns out you do have existent standards for humor
0 ups, 4y
He was not a Democrat because he didn't support abortion, gay "marriage", birth control, fornication, etc. I see your point with taxes, but it seems like you're assuming I'm a Republican who's violently against taxes, which I'm not.

"Except for that Temple riot thing, which was a pretty anti-free market thing of him to do."

Had nothing to do with free market. Had everything to do with where the market was functioning. He didn't go around messing with small businesses that were in their proper place. It didn't matter that it happened to be a market in the temple; he would have drove out any other group that was doing business unrelated to what the temple was built for.

"there’s a noticeable trend in his sayings against the concept of hoarding wealth."

He was against hoarding wealth yes, but as a personal spiritual issue, not a government one. He didn't want people to hoard because it could potentially be harmful to their ability to attain salvation, not because he hated capitalism. Giving to the poor is just a good thing to do, which he encouraged. Capitalism doesn't automatically equal hoarding. Personal greed is what causes that.

Well, you have a very specific sense of humor. Very subtle, nearly non existent, but when someone can fathom it, you should acknowledge it, to help the people. Well done.

The insertion of a modern political cliché into a Bible verse I thought was inherently and obviously funny.

To each their own!

Here’s one of the best jokes I’ve seen lately, admittedly not my own.

All else being equal, black people are disadvantaged in American society. If you don’t recognize that, then...

Well, you aren’t necessarily a racist, but probably just need to open your eyes.

Civilised first world western nations like the UK and the USA are about as diverse as you can get. If you want to end actual racism, focus on nations where it actually exists, like in the country I currently live in. I agree that black people are disadvantaged in some way, but so are white people, asians and latinos. In multicultural first world western nations like the USA and UK, no racial or sexual group has significantly more privilege than others.

Exactly. The way to solve racism in diverse societies like the USA and UK is to ignore race entirely. The left are incapable of that. They make everything about race and gender.
1 up, 4y
Ask him when things have been more fair than now. The only actual racist policy on the books is affirmative action, which benefits *some* minorities.
1 up, 4y
And the UK cucks even more than America. A muslim rape gang was allowed to operate with impunity because the cops were too afraid to be called racist.
