Charge my portable electronics, gather ice for my perishables, gather lots of papers for daytime activities, and make sure I have batteries.

Charge my phone and fill every container and both bathtubs with water, because the water'll go out with the power since we live on the second floor. I'll also charge my flashlight/taser and prepare some candles and lighters. I'll then get out the good books and show the kids how rad the works of Roald Dahl are.

Plug in the phones and charge them, make a run to the store for ice, propane tank refill, buy batteries and prescription refills if needed, fill bathtub with water and maybe a few jugs for drinking as needed. Pack any cold perishables needed for cooking (meat, milk, etc.) into our big cooler and ice it down. If it's wintertime I might chop some firewood but that can be done once the power is already off. And finally, the must have for southern power outages, milk and bread so we can still make our soggy milk toast, with added redneck factor by grabbing a case of beer ;)

Sounds like you have some experience there. Personally I'd rather be in the country without power than in the city. We ended up taking the kids for a drive totally forgetting that traffic lights were also out, lol. It was interesting one half of our town was blacked out and the other half was fine. The lit up half was packed with people at every restaurant. The kids went to sleep earlier than usual. The candle light was very soothing. I almost want to pretend there's another poweroutage tonight, lol.

I grew up in an area that had power outages several times a year, and if it was a big storm then it would take about 2-3 days to get power back as we were at the end of the line. You just sort of get used to it.

Soothing candlelight and kids in bed early huh? Yeah, what parent out there wouldn't like that, lol! ;)

You have a good memory. I was a little older than 4 but my mom had to take care of my little brother and in a blizzard, we lived on top of a giant hill in PA, the sliding door in the living room somehow got stuck open, my dad was away at army training. I just remember her stuffing everything but the sofa in that door to keep out the snow, lol. Poor mom.

Oof. That year the snow was like 100% covering the door! Whenever we have power outages we do that routine tho.

Id get a generator. Charge devices, buy lots of ice. Stock up on nonperishables. Other than that, id just find games to play that dont need electricity

Well, this actually happened to my family and we had no time to prepare. We put everything from the fridge into coolers and hung out on the bottom floor of our house to keep cool(it was in the middle of summer) It wasn't so bad, so I guess to better prepare I'd buy ice and charge the devices.

1) Empty ice cube trays into bowl and put in freezer and put more water into ice cube trays and put back in freezer. 2) Put on chargers anything that requires a charge, including portable batteries 3) Hard boil any eggs in fridge and cook any uncooked meats 4) Blast heat or a/c, depending on weather 5) Take Hot Shower 6) Dry off and floss and brush teeth and use toilet. 7) Force self to use toilet again 8) Turn on and off all lights in house just to get your fix for using electricity 9) Consider buying a generator

I'm already prepared for most survival situations. Three days without power would be a piece of cake.

Charge everything and the power banks, buy plenty of batteries, and embrace the oncoming darkness

Set up lanterns throughout the house,and keep a flashlight with everyone.
Put food that will spoil into coolers and unplug anything that will catch fire once the power's back. Gather boardgames,crosswords and anything for entertainment.Keep NOAA radio turned up,and once the power goes out, walk around the house turning on the lanterns,and play boardgames until it's back.
