Yes, we're primarily testing in the HOPE that the larger number will mean the fatality rate is inflated. And if it is, then we can all go back to work safe with the presumption that this is all been blown way out of proportion.

Unfortunately, the testing only confirms that the virus as at best a 1% fatality rate and at worst a 15% fatality rate. Both of which is above the percentage of what is deemed acceptable.

Oh, no doubt he's wrong when you take percentage of population into account. Keep in mind, though, if we take percentage rate of infected to total population, then it's also down for the US. Still, Trump doesn't understand the numbers nor the reasons why he wants them to read one way or another. He is simply repeating what he's been told by people who want him to exposit partisan spin and talking points. And it shows. Now more than ever.

These numbers are higher than I last calculated so it is now no longer true. The only percentage we can currently boast is a low fatality rate, but that's mostly because of how less dense our population is in the non-coastal areas of the country. Which, unfortunately, are likely to be red states that will likely continue to downplay the seriousness of the virus.
