Those in charge of continuing the shut down may claim that we need to "following the science" and if you disagree with them, you're a science denying, knuckle dragging, mouth breather. But in reality, they are the science deniers, because they put all their eggs into just the medical science basket. There are other scientific disciplines.
What about economic science? What about the science of destroying peoples' livelihoods, and the impact it has on them? Which leads right into the sciences of sociology, psychology, psychiatry? How many people will die, now or later, due to mental issues related to job loss, inability to support their families, alcoholism, depression, etc.?
What about a wife, whose husband is dying in the ICU, but isn't allowed to visit him? How do you think she'll hold up?
It's like you're driving down the road with your family in the car. You see a possum standing in the middle of the road, so your natural reaction is to swerve to avoid it. In so doing, you drive into the ditch and hit a tree, and some of your family dies.
That's like what we did with this virus. We're killing, or severely harming the patients in order to impose a cure on them.
I hope it was worth it.
