Because being Putin's buttboy negates the necessity of NATO?
Without NATO, nations will seek alliances as needed. This includes anything from China to the forgotten reason NATO was established in the first place: Germany. Barely 50 yrs old, 1 WW, barely 2 decades later, a 2nd WW. Musical Chairs allies leads to further destabilization, and you have more wars and dwindling economies.
Russia is a threat to small sections of what used to be within the borders of the USSR. Problem with maintaining huge swaths of useless territory is that it is costly. That's what caused the collapse of the Soviet Union in the first place, and that was precipitated by its failed occupation of Afganistan.
Russia can invade all it wants, and in a couple of decades it's shrinking borders will be within Europe.
Meanwhile, American dominance, already something of a joke and beginning to get sidestepped by our allies on account of that rambling orange oaf in the WH, is looking at its twilight. No NATO? Nothing for the USA to lead. We go back to early 20th Century conditions which means more wars as well as the sliding of EVERYONE on Planet Earth back to the way our grandparents lived, only in a continuing downward spiral, as resources are depleted and economic growth is no longer a factor.
Hope you like running after potatoes fallen off of trucks or picking lumps of coal off of train tracks and wearing grandpa's woolen tweed coat with rolled newspapers stiched inside to stay warm, AKA see how they live in Afganistan? Welcome to the future.
