Because the process is not instant. You don't get the money 12 seconds after completing the forms online. There's a process that takes several days.

And with this many people it takes weeks and weeks.

In that time, the rent is still due.

I'm not referring to forgoing late fees and moratorium on evictions, that makes sense. (And I dont know how you missed that from my headline, and the parenthesis in the meme). There is an active movement to force landlords to not charge rent AT ALL during this time, and allow people to reside rent free without the obligation to pay that rent ever.

This too.

Coronavirus has impacted everyone, and there's no reason to be obsequious to landlords in particular. Rent forgiveness in the interim (at least for some people/businesses) makes intuitive sense, because when people and businesses go back to work, they're not going to immediately -- or possibly ever -- make back all their lost revenue from past weeks and months of being out of work.

The stimulus payments are welcome, but not really large enough to cover all expenses, nor were they intended to. Unemployment has been boosted, too, but it's not a total income replacement, either.

Disagree but upvoted anyway for starting a good discussion.

Trump organizations are asking for breaks on their monthly rent or withholding payment altogether. So have other big companies.

If it's good enough for the President and his companies, and other big companies, then it's good enough for us.
