But you are correct. There does seem to be an element of hot potato tossing here.

In reality, the economy is determined by many more complex factors than who is president. They get too much of the blame and the credit

I hope yesterday's market plunge isn't permanent, since I'd rather have good economic news regardless of who's president, whatever the political ramifications

But if it is: Then you can probably kiss Trumpy's hopes of re-election goodbye, as the strength of the economy is about the one thing he has going for him unless you are a hardcore righty who takes glee at throwing immigrant kids in cages and whatever else he's done

If this downturn is anything close to permanent, I would rather Trump be the president to turn it around, rather than Biden.

With Trump we'll get specific actions that will re-ignite the economy, Trump-style!

With Biden, we'll probably get Obama-style specific actions that will keep the economy barely out of neutral.

I agree that the economy is more complex, and impacted by more factors than who is President.

But I hope your joking with the immigrant kids in cages remark. Any person half following the issue knows that child separations started under Obama. In fact the photo shared by Obama's former speech writer which started the faux outrage was a picture taken during Obama's presidency. And all of the holding areas (you call them cages) were built under Obama.

Trump started publicly blaming Obama once he realized what a political loser this was.

However, Trump is the one who made "zero tolerance" family separation an official policy. And most Trump supporters backed him in this new ultra-hardline immigration stance, just as they support Trump in virtually everything. The explicit goal of this cruel policy was to deter border crossings.

The policy has since officially ended, but to this day no one knows for sure how many families remain separated.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_administration_family_separation_policy

To wit:

"In January 2019, the administration acknowledged that thousands more children may have been separated from their families than the previously reported figure of 2,737, with officials uncertain of the exact number. Investigation showed that the child separation policy had actually begun in the summer of 2017, prior to the zero tolerance policy announced in April 2018. Federal officials said there were no plans to attempt to reunite these children because "it would destabilize the permanency of their existing home environment, and could be traumatic to the children. [30][31][32] In May 2019, the administration acknowledged that at least an additional 1,712 migrant children may have been separated from their parents even before the 'zero tolerance' policy was implemented.[33]"

On Fox News Sunday, former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said that under the Barack Obama administration, they did detain some children alone and some families together, two policies for which Donald Trump has been widely blamed.

Johnson told host Chris Wallace that they "thought it was necessary at the time," and that it is still is.

Democrats mistakenly tweet 2014 pictures from Obama’s term showing children from the Border in steel cages."

You moved the goalpost. You are citing a zero tolerance policy. Obama was separating children from adults, but the zero tolerance policy was Trump's.
