"CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season."

How come our way less than stellar mainstream media doesn't freak out about this every year?

Because the flu happens every year and kills less than .1%. The coronavirus kills over 3% officially, could be higher, and has the potential to wipe out millions of people in a short time.

And gas-lighting and blaming Trump, who has been on top of it, is going to help find the cure?????

The virus hasn't been around long enough in developed countries to produce good numbers yet. Currently it's at 1.4% in developed countries and around 2% in China. What isn't factored in are the unknown numbers of people who have it and aren't reporting it because they, either don't know they have it due to low symptoms, or are afraid of being quarantined, or worse. We're coming up on spring and allergy season which will complicate this even further, in that many of the symptoms are identical. The real numbers can only go down based on the above...it will be below 1% in the US before Summer, thereby making it just another bug going around. We will adapt as we always do. This isn't the first corona virus China has seen fit to share with the world.

Who said it was a hoax? Making something seem worse than it is isn't a hoax, it's fear mongering. And in this case, the Democrats are using this to try and make Trump look bad. However, they think we're all stupid and will believe anything they tell us.

We don't get our talking points from the radical leftist defunct media like you enjoy doing.

Trump was referring to the Democrats politicizing the containment of the virus as the hoax. But don't let that get in the way of your, take it out of context, agenda.

Trump:

"Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs, you say, “How’s President Trump doing?” They go, “Oh, not good, not good.” They have no clue; they don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa. They can’t count their votes!

One of my people came up to me and said, “Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. They’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”

But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We have 15 people in this massive country, and because of the fact that we won early, we won early, we could’ve had a lot more than that. We’re doing great. Our country is doing so great. We are so unified. We are so unified."

If you read carefully enough you can tell that he is talking about containment as the hoax by the term "It's all turning" and the fact that he talks about only "15 people in this massive country".

I think we should refer to you as Mr. Thought Reader since you seem to think you know better what Trump is thinking than he does.

Remember when Trump was calling Obama a "psycho" for following the CDC guidelines during the Ebola "plague" in America? When he said Obama should be ashamed? One Ebola case arrived in New York and that proved America's leaders were "incompetent"? Obamas choice of Ebola czar was a "TOTAL JOKE"?
And we're talking about a virus which killed.. what was it like a total of 3 people here?

It's kind of funny the way sh*t comes back around.....

If true then it is wrong either way. Doesn't help the situation for anybody to politicize it. But that is not the point I was arguing.
0 ups, 5y
Seems like the point you were arguing is that KylieFan (allegedly) takes talking points from the media... meanwhile you seem to be taking them directly from Trump... with a quote that contains at least 2 falsehoods as far as I can tell.

You are changing the argument because you lost it. If Trump had truly called the Coronavirus a hoax then I would say you are correct. However, you are not so you distract by making the comment "Who's doing the politicizing, now?" and parroting mainstream media lies about the hoax comment. Just take the loss. You don't want to read something in context that is really there because it doesn't meet your agenda.

And y’all bought it.

I haven’t changed my argument at all. This is just one new data point in a pattern I've long come to expect. As usual, Trump’s wielding this new threat as a cudgel against political opponents and only appears to care about the inflection rate and death toll to the extent it could implicate him personally.

If President Trump would shut up, do his job, and stopped acting like every critical opinion about every new issue is a Democratic conspiracy to unseat him, then I’d be a lot less inclined to roast him for this.

See my previous post, since we are going around in circles, and try take a reading comprehension class while you are at it since you lost the argument I was making. Please tell me exactly where it says he called the Coronavirus their new hoax from both conservative and liberal sources. I agree that they are both politicizing it. Do you?????

I have stopped reading your nonsense because it is a waste of time. I made my point and we disagree. I thought lawyers work based on evidence and not speculation or thought bubbles. The sky is florescent green Kylie because I say it is.

Lawyers are what they are. Do we need to say lower than snakes assholes?
Some use facts to prove or disprove a situation but the most of them are only looking at subverting the law and following it when it suits them. Look at Avenatti, creepy porn lawyer, Democratic Party poster boy, the man who would be President. He turned out to be the honest guy didn't he. They are mostly as dishonest as the worst they represent.

2 sides to every story, 1 side to every fact. You presented a story. I presented a fact.
[deleted]
0 ups, 5y
The fact that you can't sway Kylie with the facts is because, as a lawyer, he/she whatever, makes their living using facts to make their case, truth be damned. They can't stop. Imagine being married to somebody who doesn't know how to concede an argument, always twisting your words against you. Seeing that was one of the reasons I backed out of Duke's program to pursue another career.
0 ups, 5y
You and I see the same exact facts — Trump’s words, which we have both quoted verbatim — in two different lights.

That’s where things get fun, and where I make my money.

Lawyers work with the facts we are given.

We cannot lie or create new facts to serve our client’s needs. Not ethically.

Or else we would place our own law licenses and livelihoods in jeopardy.

And if we were up against any other lawyer worth their salt: they would punish us dearly for doing so.

"...only appears to care about the inflection rate and death toll to the extent it could implicate him personally."

Yeah I guess Trump would have it on his conscience if 1000 people died of this disease, unlike Obama and his response to H1N1. That Illustrious leader waited 4 mths to declare what Trump did immediately.

"When the World Health Organization officially declared H1N1 a pandemic in June, American health officials declared a public health emergency, but it wasn't until four months later, October, that then-President Obama declared an H1N1 national emergency. By that time, the disease had infected millions of Americans and more than 1,000 people had died in the U.S."

All infectious diseases are liable to hit the oldest, youngest, and frailest the hardest. That’s nothing new.

We’re still pretty early in the epidemiology of this outbreak, so it’s not time to compare death tolls just yet.

I sure hope the outbreak is over by April, and gets “killed off by warm weather” or whatever latest optimistic take Trump has offered, but underestimating stuff like this is a mistake.

His response thus far has been overall self-serving, overly politicized, and horrendous.

If this outbreak proves to be less deadly than swine flu, great, but it won’t be because Trump took it seriously from the beginning.
0 ups, 5y
Also just re-reminder Corona Covid 19 has not killed anyone under 15 years of age. Therefore as an infectious disease it is not hitting the youngest hardest.
0 ups, 5y
Yes well hopefully level heads reduce the impacts possible from this virus. Regardless of personal opinion as to the politics related to it.

Trump still hasn’t even declared a public health emergency (which Obama did in the very first month of swine flu), let alone a “national emergency”

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1147016

Instead, Trump’s downplayed the threat of coronavirus at every opportunity, and has done his level best to wield this new threat as a political cudgel against Democrats

You can criticize Obama all you want but he never tried to weaponize a global pandemic against political opponents

What if I told you: Orange Man is, in fact, Bad

Wake up folks
0 ups, 5y
So did Obama downplay H1N1 and 1000 people died before he did something or did he just not care if Americans died?

Do you ever answer the question asked ? I know I read you complain that others havent answered yours.
0 ups, 5y
What if I told you, that you like many have your head up your ass in relation to what is happening with this virus and you are politicizing also?

Firstly, Obama let people die when he could have done something .

Do you really need to be so retard not to see that people died because of Obamas inaction. As opposed to Trump immediately blocking inbound Chinese Flights.

Just an article about politicizing and they appear to have many more if you want to get a proper/fuller view in one place of who has said what.

https://apnews.com/d36d6c4de29f4d04beda3db00cb46104

This Virus Covid19 is clearly already established in its common target. Unless you are over 70 you dont stand much chance of dying from it.
If your under 15years old and die from it you will be the first.
It isn't appearing to be be as big a threat as the small minded would like you to believe. It also isn't being told that the individuals who are dying from it are predominately genetic Chinese even in the populations outside of China.

So unless your over 70 years of age and Chinese you just take the usual precautions that you would for any infectious disease. And if your not in a high risk group then look after yourself at home without burdening doctors hospitals and other healthcare facility.

Am i downplaying the threat in what i Just wrote?
Those are some facts as known from data wordwide. I would say threat level is no higher than a peak flu season which many have stated will be the likely infection rate outside of China once peak infections have occurred and because we are not and countries generally outside china are not closed societies information should be better known to the public rather than the commie telling them what they want them to know.

China already has stated that they will be back to full production levels by the end of March. It is a Big beat up.

He clearly didn't do that. He was referring to their politicizing of it, the response to it, if you will. He doesn't speak well, granted. But that doesn't mean we get to input our bias into his statements. The whole conversation was about their efforts to weaken his presidency and using the outbreak as their latest tool, which pretty much summed up the networks' info last week, one such network saying that this pandemic could be an opening for democrats. That's where it started. It's an election year, so it isn't surprising at all...disgusting, but not surprising.
0 ups, 5y
Trump "doesn't speak well," granted. But when it comes to politicizing topics, he knows exactly what he's doing.

Reading the entire paragraph in context leaves little doubt that he "misspoke." He's being a big old baby in response to legitimate criticism of his response and (further) politicizing the topic.

Does all of this create an opening for Democrats? Quite possibly! But that's a topic for cable news pundits, and their conservative counterparts, not our president.

Yes, the hysteria is a hoax. Calling Trump the cause of all this is a hoax.
