He had to be rich if he spent 8 years after college doing nothing! Plus, the point was he made an extremely high salary. It would be elite for college grads today to make that much - maybe 5% get that to start. Back then—it would’ve been an even lower percentage of the population because almost no one made that much anywhere in America. You could buy a house with that in a lot of places.
