Yeah, maybe the killing itself wasn't so funny, but some reasoning behind it was, eh...
But it is nice to know this was really the case. My history teacher called it "De nacht van de lange messen" which translates to "The night of the long knives". I don't know if that name is official, though. Not sure what you can do with this fact, but it's nice to know, eh?
