My family member killed someone at 17, got life. after 25 yrs Beau Bidden got him out of jail.

It's tough to know who is going to re-offend when they're released. We don't have precogs like "Minority Report." We already have the rich world's highest incarceration rates. I don't think being even more punitive is the right way to go. We need to do nothing less than fix the whole American economy to restore social mobility, fix public schools in low-income neighborhoods, and somehow make up for decades and centuries of lost wealth-building opportunities for blacks under Jim Crow and slavery. I heard somewhere that the "black-on-black crime" thing was actually debunked at some point, and the whole "crime statistic" thing was taken out-of-context by people trying to push a racist narrative. I haven't looked that far into it, but I'm just assuming that the "crime statistic" actually means that African Americans are more likely to get arrested, because of how racist American cops can be.

The reason why I haven't looked far into it yet is because fake news is everywhere and targeted at everyone. You never know if a news article or whatever is trying to sell you some narrative. Like, let me be honest here. I avoid the news like the plague. Though, I might look at Associated Press every now and then.
