it's just a metric,we all use them.
is it really a surprise? i think it equally unlikely trump has universal support from active military.

Bear in mind polls tend to be skewed by sample types, which tend to be older folks at home answering land lines.
That would leave a large portion of opinions from a wide swath of various demographics out.

A poll taken of military types, on the other hand, would be closer to accurate since the demographic accessed for that polling IS of military types themselves.
Further, military are trained to be efficient and honest when questioned, so the aspect of telling polsters what they think they want to hear is significantly lower, thus yeilding more accurate numbers as well.
