Do you really want your car exploding from a minor accident and then no fire service can put the fire out. It has to burn out to extinguish. Lithium batteries are not safe enough to be everywhere, not yet.

If we can get hydrogen powered cars from waste sources then we will be onto something and of course those pesky oil companies can convert their stations to hydrogen.
