Human rights. Except for life. That's reserved for a privileged few.

You're not truly a person until you are born. That's just my opinion. But it's also, in effect, the opinion of the U.S. government itself, as evidenced by the fact that the government gives you the following at birth: 1. Recognition of your full legal name; 2. Your birth certificate; 3. Automatic birthright citizenship; 4. Your SSN.

Some states ban abortion in the third trimester, but I don't think that's because they take the view that the fetus is a person yet. I think the justification for those laws is that at the point of fetal viability, the fetus's potential claim to life at that point overcomes the mother's say in the matter. I'm sympathetic to that viewpoint, actually. But in those states they still don't have names or ID's yet, until they are born.

You guys are the ones seeking radical change around this issue, not us.

There are flaws to your opinion of what makes a person a “person”.

1. When a baby is born, it doesn’t automatically receive a name, birth Certificate, citizenship or SSN as soon as it emerges from the womb.
2. Yet, terminating the life of a viable baby after it fully emerges from the womb is considered murder in all 50 states.
So, by your logic, it should be legal to kill a newborn baby as long as it hasn’t yet received a name or ID, if that’s your definition of a “person”.

Racists and save owners owners didn’t consider blacks as “people” either. It helped them justify how they treated slaves and blacks in general. “You guys” are doing doing the same thing to justify terminating an innocent human life because the mother “chose” not to carry a baby full term.

I don't find the fact that they don't immediately issue birth certificates literally on the spot to be significant at all. There are a thousand other things going on during birth that need to be attended to first. Once the baby emerges from the womb, it becomes entitled to receive these identifying documents at a point in the near future. And no, it can't simply be killed off before it does. Yes, I'd agree that's murder -- along with all 50 states.

But prior to exiting the womb, not all 50 states agree.

States that allow late-term abortions allow a doctor to extract all but the head of the baby from the womb before sticking probes in the back of the baby’s head to scramble its brains.
And that’s the difference between “choice” and murder — just a few inches.

It’s really sad how some people try to justify murder.

As I said, I'm sympathetic to the idea that reasonable restrictions can be placed on abortion in the last trimester.

However, there are those on the right who think that the principle that "life begins at conception" means that using a plan B pill, say, to terminate a 4-hour old mixture of sperm and egg amounts to murder.

Even if we can't agree on the exact moment of "personhood," I think everyone would agree that the longer the fetus is in the womb, and the closer it gets to the moment of birth, the stronger its claim to life becomes.

“Location”? No. A person in Hawaii is as fully a person in Washington D.C. I’m saying birth defines personhood. There’s a lot more to being born than simply being in or outside the womb.

And my views on the other issues around third-trimester abortion I’ve explained above.

Taking Plan B to abort a 4-hour old mixture of sperm and egg is murder then?

Okay, well, those aren’t the attitudes of the U.S. government on this issue.

Or even the Republican Party as a practical matter. They talk a big game but they are never going to ban abortion. They are more than happy to keep the issue dangling as a vote-getter.

All murders should be prosecuted, yes?

How many of those women do you want to prosecute and throw in jail? For how long? And what about the male?
