Not me personally, as I’m a white boy from the south and I grew up seeing a lot of it. It does not attack me. In some ways, it was made for people like me.

However, this is an incredibly hostile symbol for black folks. I have enough compassion to imagine what it means to them, and for that reason I choose not to celebrate it and advise others do the same.

Creepy Condescending Wonka Meme | INSTEAD OF IMAGINING WHAT IT MEANS TO BLACK FOLK WHY DON'T YOU ASK THEM? | image tagged in memes, creepy condescending wonka | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
FYI--Black people are perfectly capable of letting others know if something offends them, without help from a southern white boy. And, you may find that "The Dukes of Hazzard" was a guilty pleasure for men of all stripes.

One step ahead of you. I already asked them, they told me, and I'm amplifying their voice on this.

We are allowed to be allies of other racial groups without literally sharing their skin color.

Sorry, I took you literally when you said you have enough compassion to "imagine" what it means to them. I had no idea you actually asked. I'm sure they 'preciatecha getting the word out on their behalf.

Well, I disagree with your premise -- even if you've never had a conversation with a black person in your life, I still think you can exercise your imaginative and compassionate sense to put yourself in their shoes.

Example: I've never spoken directly with, say, a Tibetan or Uighur, and yet all I have to do is read the headlines to know that they're struggling under oppression by the Chinese state. I don't have to first have a conversation in order to have an opinion.

You'd be better off actually talking to a Tibetan or Uighur rather than read headlines about them. First hand accounts carry more weight than secondhand or hearsay.

Practice tolerance.

Reading history books might change your mind.
