And how is that working for the straight parents of gay kids? When they can't abuse them into being straight they're sending them to those anti-gay concentration camps? Yep. Eventually people will have to choose right or wrong for themselves. But authority figures can very heavily influence towards one side or another.

A big part of why I became a Democrat was getting a job that pays me enough that I feel comfortable paying a little more in taxes. This is really not about “give me stuff.” I want to give stuff to others.

And yes I give to charity too. But charity can’t effect change or achieve results on a massive scale the way government can.

Just literally look around and see the beneficial effects of government spending everywhere. Infrastructure, research grants, welfare programs, etc.

It isn’t all pocketed by bureaucrats the way right-wingers would tell it.

The government has also spend ridiculous amounts of money on such hits as: hundreds of thousands of dollars to study the reproductive habits of japanese quail on cocaine, 1.5 million on studying how fish handle treadmills, $40k to create a copy of berkshire, mass. in minecraft, 3.5 million on studying why people fear the dentist, 3.4 million to study how much more aggressive male hamsters become on steroids(pitting them against each other in a sort of hamster fight club), half a million dollars on a computer algorithm trying to predict when characters in soap operas would kiss or hug, and many more. But yeah, they spend all that money super wisely.

Or hundreds of thousands of dollars on FLOTUS' hotel rooms...

The US government spends more than 3X per student on education than the polish yet we lag behind them in literally every single academic field. The government spends money in absolutely wasteful ways, thinking that every problem can be solved by just throwing money at it without any regard for spending the money the right way. You can claim we should give more to the government all you want but all it does and all it has done in the past is lead to more and more waste.
