If you listen to the hearings today, what you heard was "we didn't think the policy was correct". It is not their job to determine policy, but to carry out the policy of the president.

Additionally, the President is allowed to circumvent the State Department at any time of his choosing by using hand picked envoys as he sees fit. There is nothing in the US Constitution that requires that the Presidents foreign policies have to first go through a bureaucracy.

Don't give me that. The President appoints them and you elected the President.

All appointed officials who work in the Executive Branch of the government, i.e. NSC, DOJ, FBI, CIA, State Department, etc. all work at the pleasure of the President. He can fire them anytime he wants with or without justification.

So far, everyone who has testified, with the exception of Vindermen, worked in an appointed position and is required to carry out the policies of the President. They don't get to decide if they like the position or policy.
