Best advice I ever heard and it saved me on a few occasions. Set up an emergency fund. Cash is best but I put it into a savings account. Work your way up to $1,000 by putting in a few dollars here and a few dollars there. We used it when I had a car accident, when we had to fly across country for a funeral and a few other times. As soon as you take money out replace it.

Don't spend what you haven't got, and PRESTO! debt be gone!

(Unless you want to use credit cards to buy what you already have the money for, pay all on the due date, and get a little extra by letting the points add up)

Simple, cut up any credit cards except one for emergencies only. Get it from your local credit union if at all possible. Don't buy what you can't afford except for cars and houses. (Keep it to one car payment at a time and pay extra on the bill to pay it off early.) When buying a home, pay bi-weekly. You will make 13 payments a year and it will take years off your mortgage mostly in interest payments.

Get a money market account and put $20 to $50 dollars a week (or even just $10 if that is all you can afford) into and forget it.

Wait to buy bigger purchases until you get a tax refund. If you don't need a bigger purchase, place at least half of the return in the money market account. (Pro's will tell you not to pay too much in taxes to make your money work for you today. That's great if you have a lot of money, but my wife and I both pay extra weekly in taxes for both State and Fed. Come refund time we get a much larger return that allows us to do the bigger purchases if needed. We call it our forced savings and as savings accounts pay almost nothing in interest, we aren't losing but a few pennies in interest.)

Or you can be born to rich parents.

I've been hoarding it for over two years. Currently, I have about 200€, but I do spend it when necessairy or when I wish to (rarely). And remember, I'm only 16 (and unemployed).

Being able to save up is a good skill to have at a young age.

Ahh, yes. Haven't explained how I get my money. See, you know what's lunchmoney, right? When your parents give you something to buy some food in school. Except I don't buy any food, and instead return home with it and leave in on my desk. After a few days, the idea of hoarding hit me.

I'd do a job as well, but
1. School
2. Lack of jobs (which is a literal meme here in Bosnia in the same way that firearm owners and experts are a meme in America)

Not sure. I really don't have anywhere to go, nor a reason to go. My father is a self-employed car mechanic, and I'd have no problems working for him. He claims I'm too clumsy for that, though. Not that he's wrong, but I'd still have no problem with working for the family.

Cool, all that remains is to hope that the situation will get better in the coming years; don't let it drag you down, keep your head up and hang in there.

Build a budget, and stick to it. Never spend more than you make unless it's a house or car, stay away from credit as much as possible, and dont spend money on stuff you dont need like 900 channels of crap cable TV for $49 a month. And save money, I have a direct deposit that goes into savings every month and it never gets touched except in emergencies. If you have investments, diversify to hedge bets. Have some stable slow growth accounts, and put a reasonable amount into risky but promising ones.

I want to burn all my credit cards. Dear hubby applied to like a dozen against my wishes and now we're up to our eyeballs. I'm a spend only money that exists like cash girl. We were doing good paying them off but then twin babies happened and hospital bills, bigger van and bigger house which we're renting. I hate debt.

I have vowed never to own a credit card. The way I see it is if I can't afford something I go without.

For teens I would say to get a job as early as possible and save every penny you make. I was able to comfortably pay my rent during college because of the money I had saved from working in a crappy kitchen for a few summers.

Some people spend money before they even have it. Pay your bills first, and have a savings account reserved for emergencies.

I'm with you. I hate plastic. But unfortunately it's hard to build up credit to rent or get a loan without one. I guess the smart thing would be to just treat it as cash only buy what you already have the money for and pay it off right away. That's what my parents do. Good for you paying college bills with money you saved! Kids now get up to their eyeballs in debt before getting their first job. :(
