Octavia:
It's just a guess. I may be completely wrong. And it's not just because you disagree with me. The types of points you make about the Bible signal that there are basic mechanics that you are missing (Christians aren't under the Law anymore, as an example).
I don't want to offend you, but most of your points kind of sound like they were copied from a blog writer rooting through the Bible like a truffle hog, looking for something that sounds juicy, just so he can fill up his next post with his preconceived ideas.
As I said, I could be wrong. You could be reading the Bible for yourself. If you are, I'd love to answer any questions you might have.

Good Question! The Law didn't atone for our sins. Atonement is our reconciliation with God through Christ. The Law was put there by God to show that we can't be perfect, but that we daily break God's commands.
Don't just take my word for it. Galatians 2:15-3:29 contrasts what the Law does with what the New Covenant does. You might want to grab a commentary because that scripture gets really deep.
For your other question, Absolutely. Genesis 15:6 says "he [Abraham] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness." In fact, Habbakuk 2:4 says, "The righteous shall live by faith." Those are actually some of the most pivotal quotations in the New Testament.
