Weak analogy fallacy. The NRA teaches gun safety and responsible ownership while only liberals wear cream pies in public.

And in private, too!

So anyone who joins the NRA will magically be cured of all mental issues that could turn him into a mass shooter? The NRA's great, but not that great.

There's a very important rule in logic. Correlation does not prove causation. Just because one thing happens, and then another, doesn't mean the first caused the other. Just because no NRA member has ever committed a mass shooting, doesn't mean that the NRA is responsible for that fact.

Correlation doesn't disprove it either. How do you know the NRA isn't magical?

Wait. The whole point of your meme was that the correlation between NRA membership and not being a mass shooter happens because NRA membership causes people not to commit mass shootings. I'm not saying that one's not the cause of the other. All I'm saying is your meme didn't _prove_ it.

You know that the NRA isn't magical. Please don't go for cheap shots.

First, you can't prove a negative. So until an NRA member commits a mass shooting there is no way to prove that NRA membership doesn't stop people from committing mass shootings.

Next, the first part of this meme is nothing more than a statement of fact. No NRA member has ever committed a mass shooting, that is a fact.

The second part of the meme is meant to point out that joining the NRA could be as much of a solution to mass shootings as any "common sense" gun control so far proposed.

Again, another weak analogy fallacy, and whataboutism. The bible is just a book and has no relationship to an organization of people dedicated to gun safety and responsible gun ownership.

Meanwhile, liberal San Fransisco labels the NRA, an organization whose members have never committed a mass shooting, a terrorist group. Hope the NRA wins a massive settlement in their defamation lawsuit.

"Whoever said it did have a relationship to a gun safety organization? I didn't say that."

That's what I said, whataboutism. It had nothing to do with the meme.

"How many mass shootings has Al Qaeda committed on US soil?"

Mass shootings are not the only qualification. You can be a terrorist organization if you cause terror through the use of violence. I believe 9/11 means Al Qaeda meets the criteria.

What act of violence has the NRA been involved in?

"I don't know if an entire organization can sue for defamation."

In the U.S., a corporation has the same rights as a person.

There is a difference when I, a private citizen, says Ilhan Omar is a terrorist, because that is my opinion and not a statement of fact. I can say whatever I want as long as it is my opinion and I do not publish it as a fact.

San Fransisco, a governmental body, passes a resolution stating the NRA is involved in terrorism. That is viewed as a public statement of fact that is injurious. When there is no proof or evidence to back their statement, that is defamation (libel).

The NRA has already filed the lawsuit.

Yep. The law reveals sin and in Paul's own words, brings it to life e.g. seeing the law awakens the inate desire to break it.

Thanks FightingUntruth! You're doing a good job.

Octavia, the Bible supports what he just explained. One of the best passages to illustrate this is John 8:1-11. The Pharisees bring a woman to Jesus who, under the law, is supposed to be stoned (With real rocks, not drugs... )

To make a long story short, The Pharisees get bored and leave. And Jesus forgives the woman and tells her to sin no more.

Romans 8:1 says "There is, therefore, no condemnation [under the law] for those who are in Christ Jesus." That clearly teaches that Christians aren't under the Old Testament law any more.

You seem to get a lot of your material from Anti-Christian polemics. Try reading the Bible for yourself. Start in the New Testament. It's a lot different than what you seem to think it is.

Octavia:
It's just a guess. I may be completely wrong. And it's not just because you disagree with me. The types of points you make about the Bible signal that there are basic mechanics that you are missing (Christians aren't under the Law anymore, as an example).

I don't want to offend you, but most of your points kind of sound like they were copied from a blog writer rooting through the Bible like a truffle hog, looking for something that sounds juicy, just so he can fill up his next post with his preconceived ideas.

As I said, I could be wrong. You could be reading the Bible for yourself. If you are, I'd love to answer any questions you might have.

FightingUntruth:

Good Question! The Law didn't atone for our sins. Atonement is our reconciliation with God through Christ. The Law was put there by God to show that we can't be perfect, but that we daily break God's commands.

Don't just take my word for it. Galatians 2:15-3:29 contrasts what the Law does with what the New Covenant does. You might want to grab a commentary because that scripture gets really deep.

For your other question, Absolutely. Genesis 15:6 says "he [Abraham] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness." In fact, Habbakuk 2:4 says, "The righteous shall live by faith." Those are actually some of the most pivotal quotations in the New Testament.

The NRA is a great organization, but you can't credit it with the magical ability to fix, or even identify potential mass shooters' mental illnesses.

The proposition in this meme is one of the first fallacies you learn about in any logic course.
