The interesting thing is how the Democrats claim asking about citizenship will cause illegal immigrants to not complete census forms. So what about all the legal non-citizens who are here on work visas and green cards? Are they going to not fill out census forms too?

Agreed.

Democrats (and I suppose others) argue that asking about whether people are US citizens would make some immigrant groups reluctant to answer questions.

Politically speaking, that might under-count the groups of people who support the Democrats and could lead to states like California losing representation in the House.

The Republicans, for their part, hope that’s exactly what happens.

What could possibly be gained by putting the question on the census other than fodder for Trump to use?

Why was it always on the Long Form, and only went away because the Long Form was discontinued?

... And, the question was there under Democrat Presidents as well... Were they RACISTS?... Oh, yeah, the Democrat politicians WERE racists (and still can be considered to be, but in a slyer exploitative way).... The big question should be 'what could possibly be gained by the removal Citizenship question'?...
