Fella, you're obviously Iranian. Granted, you've been raised on a lot of nonsense but there is a new invention the Great Satan God has given unto thee: The Interwebz.
Google. Learn. Know.
Iran - the second oldest country in the world - was such a backwater, they went by the name of Persia, A NAME GIVEN TO THEM BY A CONQUEROR 2500 YEARS AGO. Gosh, Aran forgot its own name until 1931. Pathetic.
Do you know why the American University in Tehran is called that? (Or was, probably now the Ayatollah Revolutionary Islamic reedducation center now). President Woodrow Wilson went about modernizing countries all over the world, ironically doing more for them then our own Blacks and Native Americans whom he hated. Iran was one of them. Go ahead, look at pictures of Iran in the early 1900s. The country was medievel.
The Shah - who had four personal physicians in his palace only 'realized' he had cancer AFTER he fled Iran and AFTER Khoemeini & Co demanded him back for trial. He was tested and treated in the US, as well as Mexico and wherever else. I used to call it Shahanshah disease, because former President Ferdinand Marcos suddenly got it too (heart attack) and 'died' when then Phillipines wanted him back for trial in 1986. Some other dictator or so suddenly got sick and died under the same circumstances after.
Call me a conspiracist, but we do not let our puppet dictators get executed by their crazed replacements.
During the Great Game, Britain and Russia had taken over large swaths of the Persian Empire. But this gets tiresome and costly, so the UK finally cut a deal with Persia that it would leave what was left of the country intact if it gave it mineral rights, making Britain de facto ruler of Iran, while allowing it to retain some autonomy and save face. BPOil owned Iran's oil - ALL of it. Mossadegh wanted to nationailze it, giving it back to Iran because selling pistachios to the world wasn't as profitable as Britain getting rich over its mineral wealth. The UK opposed, the US sent in the CIA to back a coup. Mossadegh - a really decent man, btw - lived under house arrest till his death 1964.
Shah Mohammed Reza forced women to NOT wear the Chador in public, whether they wanted to or not. THAT, and other forced rapid modern/Westernizations, bred contempt for the Shah, and what MiniAppels said about the torture and executions lead to the revolution.
