If you lived in NYC like I did in the 1980's you would have paid directly into his pocket as he used taxpayer money to build his building. Its not that complicated, seems you have simply not done any homework on him.

Funny you should bring that up. Because.... it turns out that's true. He lost so much money from 1985 to 1994 (over $1 billion) that he didn't have to pay taxes. Typically, he was the #1 in business losses. In fact, one year, he accounted for 1% of all losses claimed by business owners.

Now, if you're like "oh, that's just smart tax filing. He's claiming all these loses so he can make money."

No. He would take out loans from banks with his father as a co-signer. Then start a business. That business would fail. Miserably. The assets would be seized by the bank. And then he would default on the loan.
