Personally I venture into /politics very rarely. So much fight in there.

understandable.
I try to be funny & to have fun in the politics stream as well.
Unfortunately you will encounter a lot of hate, slander, defamation & harrassment.

If you check these users' profiles you will encounter a wide amount of newly created accounts - just a few days old - obviously created for this sole purpose.

to me a minimum of stream requirements for the politics stream seems mandatory.
flagging & account-deleting does nothing.

It seems like a simple (and reasonable) solution to a problem that dogs this site. I hope admins takes heed. Have you approached the politics mod?

I've heard a lot of folks talk about this problem. What do we look for exactly at their profiles to find newly created accounts?

click at a user's name to visit their profile
2nd line (right under their screen name) would read 'Joined year-mm-dd' (in small letters)

Ok, I see what you mean! Just looked up one trollish member's profile - they supposedly only became a member last month, but already have over 60 submissions and 400 creations listed. Yes, that is very suspicious!

yes- and they are legion.
my suspicion is that it's professionally done by troll farms using ai-algorithms.
There has been claims that it's all the same guy.
but no single individual could possibly create & maintain several dozens of troll accounts.

I’ve seen people claim that all the liberal users are the same person with multiple accounts just because of how few of are in politics and how some use similar wording

That's a rumor that started with a spat between two former chums here, one spreading it to get back at the other and jab at a couple of others while she was at it.
Then others with issue with any of them copied it, and it took off from there.

Those others have since been departing, and just recently the two chums turned nemesises have seemed to patch things up, and so the rumors have dissipated.

Also, since the rumors centered mainly around me and a couple of others, I exploited it to my advantage, tiring the haters who tried chasing me out who are themselves leaving instead.

It ain't easy being me.

Yeah, people take this way too seriously.
Use a silly pic, caps, say butthurt, and some folks think you've declared war on them.

Let's say if I see "professional" politicians work these days. Even seen a Brexit-debate in the House of Commons in the UK? And the way the Republicans and Democrats are now fighting each other is also beyond childish, in my humble opinion. My point is, I wonder if 50,000 points and 6 months of experience will be enough when even the "professionals" are not really giving a good example out there.

I guess I need to repost this old meme of mine ;)

The wheat has to be sorted from the chaff.
I wouldn't want anyone banned or deleted just because they're 'not nice' or 'childish' or 'stupid'-I'm ok with that
My proposal is meant to deal with dozens of newly created suspicious account registrations. In the politics stream quite a bunch of those are base-motive. These are spoiling the imgflip concept of being a place for having fun.

I gotta admit that there's a lot of memes there lately that fail to make a good statement, but are rather just personal attacks, and those that do make an actual statement often get into a flame war (mostly by people missing the point or feeling personally attacked trying to distract from the point). And perhaps creating a new account to bypass a ban is for a stream where things can get out of hands so easily is way too easy. Not sure if 50,000 points is a bit 'too high' though.
The point with politics these days is that people don't feel heard or taken seriously (if that is true or not is often not really a point, lately), and if people feel like they may not say their thing, we got another one coming. Also I deem it highly possible that political trolls will then move to other streams, and then we got a bigger problem, I'm afraid :-/

50,000 is just a number that I put there.
If there's an account that is below 50,000 but has been registered two years ago then this memer is probably just little active but unlikely to be a troll-farm plant. So one might switch the stream requirements from a logical 'AND' to a logical 'OR'.

I deem it highly possible that memers will eventually move to reddit if no one cares on imgflip, and then the problem (and the memers) will be gone, I'm afraid :-/

I wasn't talking about reddit. I already see memes deliberately put in the wrong stream because of reached posting limits. Locking the political stream can mean that political memes may be put in 'cats' or 'fun' or 'sports' or whatever, and despite the approval system making it through also... :-/

no they must not. This would be a stream rule violation and subject to flagging.
If such occurs repeatedly and deliberately this would be a TOS violation on purpose.

Yup! But I wonder why moderators do still approve wrongly placed memes, as that would IMHO be better than deleting them afterward... :-/

They don't - it's as simple as that.
The majority of meme submissions are waved through or blocked by algorithms - not by humans.
my guess is that only a small percentage of memes that the algorithms are unable to cope with are forwarded to mod-approval.

That would explain a lot :(

Would love to put the politics stream on no-auto-approval and have a team of moderators handle it. We just need to find a few moderators who are truly politically neutral and objective who also care about politics enough to moderate it.

yes. Overthinking my suggestion I'd make it either 50,000+ or 6 months+ as a criteria.
Not necessarily both.
that should do the trick to eliminate newly created trolling accounts.
you're older than 6 months so you wouldn't be affected.
obviously you're just little active but not a newly created account.
