It appears you are elevating "national security" over transparency. We are not subject to our government, the government is responsible to us. I agree that national security is important, but only in so far as the term is clearly defined. Meaning, the government cannot arbitrarily claim national security in order to avoid to scrutiny from it's citizens who's rights maybe subject to agregious violations. For example, the massive domestic espionage operating conducted by the NSA exposed by Snowden.
