On reperations:
(I wrote this for quora but the fkin question was morphed with another one so it is all for naught.)
Black people have been historically oppressed in society, kept down. Slavery, Jim Crow, and red lining are all horrible things.
However, now it isnt institutional racism that keeps blacks down. That is more of a victimhood complex propagated by some on the left. The idea that a black person cannot succeed as much as a white person because of racism today is a complete falsity. According to the Brookings Institute, if a poor teen finishes high school, gets a full time job and waits until 21 to get married and have children, they have a only about 2 percent chance of staying in poverty and nearly 75 percent have joined the middle class. (Three Simple Rules Poor Teens Should Follow to Join the Middle Class) So, you are probably thinking, why do black teens do so much worse. Are black people simply born stupider? No. It is the culture, not inherent inability as some may say, or institutional racism as others may say. It isnt the skin color, but the fact that they are born without two parents and that they have a culture that glorifies gang violence, as well as less focus on education. Black students whose parents earn $70,000 a year or more make median SAT scores lower than impoverished white students whose parents make $6,000 a year or less, while black students whose parents both have graduate degrees make mean SAT scores lower than white students whose parents only completed high school. 70% of black kids are born out of wedlock. What’s Holding Blacks Back?
Another reason against reparations. All black people arent poor. 27.3% of black households earned an income between $25,000 and $50,000, 15.2% earned between $50,000 and $75,000, 7.6% earned between $75,000 and $100,000, and 9.4% earned more than $100,000. https://www.census.gov/prod/2011...
It isnt the fault of the rich or white today that blacks are poor. Money shouldn't be taken from rich white people who never owned slaves. America is about new opportunities, not living in the past. It will be better for everybody if black people stopped thinking of themselves as victims and thought of the opportunities they have.
Reparations wont work. We already poor money into inner city communities through welfare. That hasn't really made them into hard workers, but more reliant on the system. Reparations could make it worse. Society would be accepting that blacks are still victims, and a victim me
