I think they should walk out. Only problem is, once this "shutdown" is over, the government will only seek to rehire people. And the only way it can do that is by bribing them with guaranteed benefits, pensions, and inability to be fired. These are things you will pretty much never find in the private sector.

It's totally true. Imagine you are an employer and you are trying to entice more people to come and work for you. What can you do? Well aside from long-term goals like improving your workplace environment, you can just increase the pay and provide extra bonuses like benefits and pensions.

I'm not even saying anything like "they should turn down pensions". I'm saying government gets too much free/printed/borrowed money and can throw around whatever benefits they want as "bribes" to attract workers. And I'm saying that I bet these government workers who aren't getting paid at the moment will not simply walk off because their pensions and benefits are too good to simply walk away from.
