My twist on that is I sometimes share my thoughts in comments to remind people that not everyone thinks like them. Otherwise this just becomes an echo chamber.

+1 for your sentiments. However I do so for all the above reasons. You can indeed influence others. It is just that change at times can be imperceptibly slow....
I don't share my political thoughts because I think it will change the minds of those who think differently. Nor do I share my thoughts to provoke public social media arguments. I share my thoughts to show the people who think like me that they are not alone.
