I noticed a while back - and started experimenting and using it almost immediately... In the image above I used the background color feature on a .png. I liked the old "glitch" feature... But catering to meme-art geeks is probably too much to ask.
I've also noticed some text/alignment options changes recently added as well... And some new icons, too.
One thought that I've had for user friendliness is a "rotation-lock/unlock" check box to go with internal insert images and text boxes. One thing I spend a bit of time upon is accidentally misaligning something while trying to resize it... Or attempting to move a nearby object. I get all anal retentive or OCD... and in complex images... you try and straighten-up one thing, and then totally mess-up others nearby. It can get frustrating.
Rectilinear seems like a good "standard" default. You check "unlock" and things could become suddenly adjustable; and then fixed once-again in orientation, once 'perfect'.
