The omission was not intentional. I alway upvote you when you comment on my memes whether I agree with you or not. And I also upvote many of your meme, also, I may not always comment, but there is an excellent reason for your ranking.

And for those who only look at the ‘Hot’ list, good political memes will not be seen. So those memes are indeed silenced and/or censored.

Thanks very much for the vote of confidence in free speech. I do fear that it seems to be a minority that still feels that free speech, no matter how vile it may seem, is worth protecting as is stated in the Constitution. But perhaps the ones shouting down conservative speakers at colleges, or who are getting in the faces of house and senate members at restaurants, or those who actually shoot and wound Republican congressmen playing baseball is a minority.

From my limited perspective those intolerant voices are the loudest voices, and ones that garner the press coverage. But if you are one who certainly stands up for free speech and free expression, I tip my hat to you and appreciate that you understand what free speech means.

I think those are signs of the times. The shooting is obviously deplorable.
If people can handle people shouting about how god hates gays and that god is happy the gay service members died at the funerals, I think people can handle being shouted down at universities.
I, for one, think it is valuable to listen to the people you disagree with. We cannot compromise if we do not listen. We cannot be critical of our own positions if we do not listen. We cannot learn to debate against other positions if we do not come to understand our position and the other person's position.

If our public servants do not like being yelled at in public, they always have the option to resign. Obviously vandalism and credible threats are illegal and could be prosecuted. Now if we could just get people to express themselves in a different way than feigned threats.

I personally think that the only two streams needed are politics and fun, because some people don’t want to look at politics. I don’t care for politics and only look at this stream every few days. I don’t want to look at them, because this is usually a humor site, where so come to laugh, so I think politics and fun are the only streams we need.

I do not think that a separate stream is necessary. There is no separate stream for NSFW/. So the proper fix is to implement a filter just like NSFW/ A political meme, no matter how well received by the imgflip community, will never be included in the ‘Jot Stream’. Separate is not equal.

So in the image editor, you mark is as political, and then you can submit it to the one stream that they would have. It would be featured in hot, or have the possibility, and it could just be filtered out depending on the viewers preferences?

True, but a political filter could help some of the half political memes and good political memes reach the “hot” page, so yeah, they should have a filter.
