Good point (about not spamming)! Thanks. If this meme gets high in Hot, I might have to take them off. But I just wanted an easier way for people to get to them, because I don't like how on the profile you have to choose stream by stream, and can't see all of them. :-)

Totally kidding! And for the record, I don’t mind anyone linking their stuff to me. But yes it’s very annoying trying to separate streams and find this or that, I hate that because I miss so many memes that way! :)

Thanks for clearing up about your comment, but I don't mind. Spamming links (someone putting links to their own memes on memes that are, or are likely to go, high in Hot) is not OK. It goes against the site's Terms of Use. It uses high traffic on memes in Hot to get views to their own memes, which is an unfair disadvantage. In view of the fact that many other users struggle to get views to their memes, trying to cheat the system like that is just... incredibly douchey.

Since this meme is apparently doing well now, I took the links to my own memes off. I just put them there to corroborate the meme, but if people don't believe the meme, they can check it the clumsy way. :-)

(Just in case it's not clear from my other comment, I'm not talking about when one user uses a link to let one other user know about their meme. If they do that on an old meme, or in private, i.e., not making it visible in the top few pages of Hot, then that's not the kind of spamming I mean. That would be between them and the other user, and only a problem if it were unwanted).

Oh I get what you’re saying. Yes I’ve seen a lot of new users do that on ones on the hot pages. Not sure if they don’t know it’s rude or are doing it on purpose but if it’s on purpose I would say it’s pretty crappy. Some of them are probably kids so I never though too much of it but there’s some downright jerks too lol But yeah when it’s done that way, I would consider it spamming as well. :)

I come her for memes, not arguments. Even the long comments above I wrote to RedRedWine were already starting to seem boring. Everyone just does what they want to do.

I think there's a lot of categories.

On the con side, I can see how it's frustrating, if you're used to checking all of a user's memes, to have to click through the various stream options on their profile to do it, now. It seems like more effort.

On the other hand, looking at it as a benefit for the site overall, it might take away some of the advantage that "known" users have over lesser-known users (who don't have as many people coming to check their profiles). It might mean that in streams other than 'fun', you won't have as much of an advantage by being a user people already know. This could level the playing field to some degree, and mean that any user's meme can do as well as any other, on the strength of the meme itself, in those sections. If that happens, that might not be a bad thing for the site.

Quite possibly, but I've noticed that memes posted in streams other than "fun" don't show up on your profile page, so people can't check your other memes from there to upvote, only the "fun" ones.

That's right! At least for now (they might change it). :-)

They should, I'm assuming it's an unintended bug. Also seems like clicking a tag only brings up "fun" memes with the tag. (I used a tag I made on two different memes, fun and cats, only the fun one showed up)

"Fun" for those who wanted to mess around, and "serious" for those who wanted to post about serious topics, and were open to debate and discussion.

I do think it would be good to have a place to see religious memes though, one way or the other. We'll see what happens.

When you say "how they work" do you mean, how to start one, or what to do with it?

Or do you mean, what decides if it shows up on your profile? (If that's the question you're asking, I don't know. You might have to ask a mod to get the answer to that.)
