Capitalism: nothing really against it, but IMGflip users have an overzealous thirst for it

Socialism can be looked at as the ultimate form of social cooperation. Everybody contributes and everybody gains -- except no human system is perfect, people cheat, things go wrong, etc. 'Flippers and many Americans don't like the level of control involved. If the govt required that everyone married only white people and that every front door was painted green, everyone would lose their minds. With the diversity of lifestyles that we accept in the US, the idea of being locked into a restrictive socialist model is rejected out of hand, even if the system isn't necessarily restrictive. Aside from being what they are used to, capitalism has the advantage of still working even when things go wrong. In fact, perfect capitalism is something no one really wants. All IMO, of course.

socialism is pretty incompatible with the (at least older fashioned)american psyche. As a nation we've always been concerned about the government staying out of our business and touchy about giving them more control over just about anything. Socialism essentially demands the opposite; we hand the reigns over to others and let them manage our lives and finances for us since apparently we aren't capable of doing it ourselves. Freedom includes the freedom to fail. Image pretty much sums it up. We believe in standing on our own two legs, socialists believe on the collective keeping you standing
