I would say that maybe they are paid for the value their contribution is perceived to have. They are also paid what people can get away with paying them.

If the owners of the Green Bay Packers perceive that Aaron Rogers is worth $33M/yr, they will pay it to him. If he thinks his contribution is worth more, he would hold out for a better offer. If the person who sweeps the floor in the stadium thinks their contribution is worth $60k, well good luck with that.

You;re comparing a single MULTI MILLION dollar position to a common working person?

You're brainwashed or retarded.

If he does it full time, one may hope he's at least making a living wage. If he holds out, someone who lives in a one bedroom flat with 4 other people may be able to take the sweeping job for less, and they'll pay that person less.

If I offer to rake the leaves in your yard for $100 and someone else says they’ll do it for $50, I bet that you will give the job to the other guy.

Actually, if i know that you do a good job, and you need the work, I'd hire you for $100 vs. another random person who comes by and offers to take less. If he has a good reputation and it's his only job, I might still hire him. I am a bleeding heart in many ways, and an idealist. I'm not naive, I don't think I have nothing against either of you, or for you, for that matter. This whole thing though, is one of the reasons we have immigration problems, is that people are so desperate they will take wages most of us would not, and the employers take advantage of that. I have nieces who live near Bakersfield CA, and they work in the fields with the immigrants (my nieces are white/euro) and not afraid of the work, but they say most other non migrant people don't want the long hours and low pay. So I don't know, what was the original post and what were we talking about? Jobs? My 2 cents, anyway...thanks for offering to rake leaves, we just let the wind take them out into the country.

no, I'd rather live in 1950's AMERICA where unions were strong and people could live on 40 hours of work a week and the rich paid more taxes, people could afford college and had decent affordable healthcare and CEOs didn't make 300x the normal worker's wage.

could that perhaps have something to do with the fact there's more jobs than workers? oh, yup look at that.. the article you linked explains why.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Yes, it does explain a lot of things. Would you use it to support the oft stated "right" claim that immigrants are stealing jobs then. Oh, not the topic of the meme. My was about Obama's "no" jobs statement.

Regardless, your own article link explains why obama's job growth was better than Trump's.. and it has nothing to do with policy. It's literally because there aren't any more jobs to be created- we already have a shortage of employees across the nation. I see you still choose to ignore the "illegal" in front of immigrant. Makes sense, since the only argument your side even has involves "the right hates immigrants". Kind of falls apart once you recognize that the right only dislikes those that break the law coming here.

I see your point. It would be great if we could find a way to find and train people to do the jobs that are open, and make education more realistic toward that goal. I've a lot of "right" friends, and I don't think they hate immigrants, however. And I'm probably not as "left" as some of my "lefty" friends would like me to be. I seriously do need to scroll past things I disagree with, but occasionally we can have productive discussions. I think we all want to make America better, and sometimes partisanship gets in the way of that.

1. We're at the tail end of the longest bull run in history, 9.5 years. Donald Trump became president on January 20, 2017. I'd suggest that you do the math, but I know Trumpers can't.

2. Trump is a lying, cheating man who almost certainly committed campaign finance felonies in 2016. Here's just a tiny sliver of the pain his terrible, inhumane policies have caused: https://twitter.com/ACLU/status/1033084026893070338?s=19
