Actually, border walls in most countries that have them have stemmed the flow of illegal immigration to little more than a trickle. Sure, 100% control of the border is unrealistic, but a wall definitely makes a difference.

But most of the illegal immigrants come by air or sea. Using green cards and then staying without renewing them. And even if it did somehow do something(I can't find any evidence to show that it will) the fact is that the wall with cost much more than it would save. Even if we paid for it. It would still cost money to keep it up and solid. It's simply too much.

The ones that over stay thier visa or fail to renew thier green card at least have preliminary paperwork filed showing they have been determined not to be a threat. Also those aren't the families we're screaming about being separated at the border.
Seems to me that a boarder wall would solve some of the real issues with immigration. The cost issue is a valid statement.

It will cost less than feeding and paying the social workers to care for all the illegals that the wall managed to keep out.

Was there supposed to be a point there somewhere? I missed it. Why take CA & NY out of the picture? A voter is a voter is a voter. The reason the electoral college even exists is that there was no practical way to gather the votes all up and truck them off to the Capitol and count them in the late 1700's, at least not within a reasonable period of time. The Electors went as representatives of their districts to cast votes on behalf of the voters. Nowadays we have the tech that would enable the EC to be eliminated and the Prez elected purely on the basis of the popular vote, but why would candidates want to give up a system where, due to the peculiarities of the EC system, like the all or nothing allocation of electoral votes that most states use, a candidate like Trump can lose the popular vote by millions of votes and still be made president?

Actually the reason for the Electoral College was that the Founding Fathers - who went from considering a monarchy to wanting to give the right to vote to only wealthy landowners to then deciding to give it to all white males lest they take up arms and continue on with the Revolution - were concerned that the masses, being uneducated ignoramuses, may end up electing a populist despot like a Trump. The Electoral College can thus opt for a more suitable candidate.
A second reason was the concern that lesser States might whine about getting eclipsed by more populated States in votes, so the EC was a way of appeasing them.

The EC in all but 2 States is winner takes all, so only the highest number of votes tallied for a candidate count, the rest are voided, in effect doing on a State level what it is supposed to counter on a Federal level.
