Ahh hey sweetheart! Yeah I'm pretty sick of this site now, it's changed too much and not for the better. I'd rather post my stuff on reddit where nobody knows me and have it do a lot better than it does here. Sometimes I wish I'd never posted stuff anywhere else but I have and now I'm all jaded and bitter lol.

Well... when I post a meme somewhere else where nobody knows who I am and it gets 300 upvotes from 1000 views and then post the same thing here and it gets 5 upvotes with a 200 views something isn't right. It's happened multiple times that is just one example.

So what's not right? Ima tell ya lol. The first thing is I stopped spending time on here commenting a bunch because nobody replies to them anymore. Comments now are just a way for people to let others know they upvoted like frappin' facebook. I'll like all your posts and you like all mine or we aren't facebook buddies. I work hard on the memes I make, I'm not going to spend my time sucking up to people so they upvote me. I'm also not going to upvote or comment on memes that aren't funny just because I like the person as an individual. I've never done that and I'm not starting now.

Another really big problem is feature time, this is the only meme site I have seen where your submissions don't feature instantly. Which wouldn't be a huge deal if they were more selective about which memes get to feature fast. If it was my website I'd want the good original stuff to feature first and hold back all the garbage to get buried like it should be. Half the stuff on the latest pages shouldn't even get featured so people have to dig through it for something good anyway. There are still good meme makers here, I think they deserve to get put at the front of the line.

The honest to God main problem is that the Mods here are worthless. I don't know what the hell it is they do if they do anything at all. Good people keep leaving, the views keep dropping or they were lying about how many we got before, they do nothing. If the mods don't give a shit about this site why the hell should any of us?

Most sites have mods that are very strict and if you break their terms you don't get to be a part of it. You get a reputation as a reposter or shitposter and you will end up banned. And if a mod happens to let one slip by the fans take care of it for them because they care about the quality of stuff on the site they are on.

I'd understand my stuff taking half the day to feature if the mods were doing their job and that's why it took them so long to get to mine. If I'm wrong and they are busy looking at the crap that makes it through here that's even worse lol. I submit something and it gets a couple views almost instantly. Just never by somebody that can feature them apparently?Who are we waiting on?

Do you have any idea how refreshing it was the first time I submitted something elsewhere and had a mod message me about it? Not only that but I replied to them and they replied right back with an answer to my question! They let my post go through even though I was new because it was original content and that is valued by them. Now that I've earned it I'm not under a microscope every time I submit something I get the benefit of the doubt. If I break that trust they will take the privileges I earned away. It's really a rather simple system if you have mods that enforce things.

I've been here for years and submitted thousands of original memes. Helped others figure the site out because there isn't even a help page for new users. Supported the site and the people on it that I feel make it better. Only to have my memes feature buried under reposts and other garbage any other site wouldn't even let feature at all. I'm not just speaking for myself either, I'm speaking for everybody here who has put good memes on this site. You can't build up a good reputation with mods that are never around and refuse to reply to people 98% of the time.

Hell one of the sites I go to for photoshop contests appreciated my original content so much. They've given me free paid membership since I started posting there so I can have a couple extra days to work on whatever for their contests. These places have made me feel more appreciated in a couple months than this place ever has. The people here, or in most cases now used to be here, made me feel appreciated. The only thing this site has ever done to tell me they want my work on here is to not let me delete my account lmao!

I don't want special treatment, I don't think every meme I make is amazing and should be on the front page. I just want to put my work on a site where it's judged honestly based on it's content. Why post something you worked hard on someplace where a repost will feature faster, and the people will only upvote it if you are their imgbook friend if they do see it?

I say let the reposters, the alt account self upvoters, and people incapable of making good memes have imgbook. They deserve a site where the mods don't give a shit about their loyal users. They can stay here and pretend to be real meme makers. This site used to be a great place for making jokes, it's been hard to watch as the site itself becomes the main thing people are laughing at...

You know I've been gone for a bit, but it's obvious to me the site has changed drastically! I always enjoyed the comment threads more than most of the memes.
One of the main reasons I took a break was the ALT accounts and not being able to get used to anyone because they were either fake or would delete their account.
There is a handful of people here that I feel like I made a real friendship bond with (you included) if not for that I probably wouldn't check in at all.

Yeah, I was going to create a new account after I deleted this one to keep in touch with a select few and that was it. Even Raydog has bailed on this place now. You'd think somebody would notice if the most popular user on their site quit. It says a lot that he walked away from an account that everything he submitted with made front page. I know he was getting downvoted a lot by people jealous of his popularity and that bothered him. I don't think that's why he left, like us he was here to have fun with the comments. Making the front page doesn't mean you get good comments on your memes anymore though.
You'll get a ton of comments like he always has from people wanting to use his popularity to get easy points. I have always been able to tell if I had something on the front page when I got a bunch of notifications from people who usually never commented on my stuff. It used to be that they at least tried to make a comment that had something to do with your meme and took the joke you made to another level.
Sadly most people don't comment because they like the meme anymore, they aren't interested in trading memes on the subject back and forth. They can't even think of something funny for the memes they submit yet alone comment with. Replying back and forth with somebody talented in a comment thread I've felt has always been the true way to separate those gifted at this from the rest. In order to do so, you have to be able to come up with stuff quickly that is funny and also a decent reply to the meme before it. You can't fake being able to do that with reposts or some joke you found on Google, maybe for one reply but not for an entire thread.
I don't think the comment threads like that died here because everybody stopped wanting to make them. It's because a lot of the people who do good on here now are doing good because of their alts, their buddies, or they reposted something. They aren't capable of replying with anything that could inspire the person they are replying to into making something that does the same in return.
When I see somebody that is on the 7 day leader board reply to every comment they get with "thank you" or not at all it makes me sick. It makes it obvious to me they are only capable of manipulating things to get points. Anybody that loves doing this would want to at least try and make something funny to reply with. I think they are afraid if they do try people might actually realize they have no idea how to do this.

I agree, there is an art to memes. A person who can hold down a real comment thread always gets my attention. I will normally go check out their other memes once I see that they have the ability to communicate with me.
You know, if you and I hadn't had our Rocky Horror Meme comment thread when I first started I wouldn't have stayed on Imgflip long enough to realize I enjoyed it.
5 ups, 6y,

That's right I did take your comment virginity didn't I lol! I wouldn't have written such a long reply if I thought you were online. I just felt it was important to me you understand not only how I felt but the events that led up to me feeling that way. Plus opening up to you has always been easier for me to do with than anybody else. Sure I am a rather open person in general, you've just always made it clear that you like me being that way so I never leave anything out when I talk to you.
It used to be that was how people got to know each other on here. You commented on memes you liked thinking the person who made it would be fun to comment with. If I noticed a new user with talent I wanted to encourage them, knowing if I did my reward would be looking at more good memes and getting to watch as they became better and better at making them.
Now if I notice a new user it's usually as I'm wondering how somebody I had never seen make a meme before got on the 7 day leader board a week or two after creating their account lol. Even the most talented new user used to take a while to get noticed because they didn't know anything about the place yet. It usually would take a few popular users commenting on their stuff for a while and their fans would follow their comments and find the new users meme that way.
They didn't start right out commenting on everything, they didn't even know that commenting a lot would help them get noticed. They slowly started commenting more and more as their skill at making memes added one person after another to the list of people they enjoyed commenting with. I remember telling you that you were good at this and then before I knew it I had to share you with the entire community who agreed with me.
Nobody was popular back then who didn't earn it, and those of us that were always appreciated finding new people to have fun with. Now we have "new" people that after a very short amount of time hit the 7 day board. Most of the people on the site noticing them for the first time that way, their memes not being good enough for them to have gained notice before that, not enough time having gone by for them to have had a chance to do so if they were.
5 ups, 6y
So now those few people who had to cheat in order to make themselves feel like they were good at making memes, managed to destroy what no haters before them could. They made a community of awesome people who were having a lot of fun creating things with each other crumble. As those with talent started to see more and more memes do better than theirs they started to leave a few at a time. Each one taking their good memes with them until the quality level of memes on the site began to decline. As it did more people began making alts and those who were still here with talent had an even harder time being seen. Which again made more of them want to leave for good.
So now the odds of an actual new user who had talent getting noticed became a lot lower than it used to be. Not only were there less old users around to appreciate them, they had all the garbage from the alt users to make it even harder for them to be seen by those who would. So talent just kept leaving and new talent that could have replaced them someday never found any reason to stay.
What we are left with is a site full of shitposts people have to dig through in order to find something good. Which is why our views have dropped considerably compared to what they were back then. Because a few people were jealous of the popularity others had earned and felt they were justified to cheat in order to make themselves appear as good as them. They are now popular on a site that has so much less good material on it that being popular here doesn't even mean what it used to.
The mods of this site chose not to act when people started manipulating things with alt accounts. They choose not to act when people repost things and let memes feature they should have left stuck at submission. Now they are reaping the rewards for their laziness.
Eventually all that will be left around here are 10 people with hundreds of alts each upvoting themselves to the front page. All of them too stupid to realize the only views they are getting are their own when they click on their own meme to upvote it lmao!
6 ups, 6y,
1 reply
Any idiot can spend a bunch of time commenting on every single meme that features that day and get a ton of points for doing so. A stupid unfunny person can post a repost and make the front page there is nothing challenging about it. You don't even have to worry the mods or most of the fans here will discover it's a repost and have it hurt your reputation on this site. You don't have to use proper grammar and spelling anymore to make the front page. All you have to do is leave a meaningless comment on everything a person makes and they will feel obligated to upvote you back. They think that anybody who always comments and upvotes them must be cool because they find all their stupid memes worthy of upvoting. Too clueless to realize that person comments on everything everybody makes hoping they will believe that's why they are doing it. As those of us with any spark of intelligence are left wondering what the f**k is going on around here lol.
Obviously by how much I have to say about this I have spent some time contemplating what is going on. Why users I have seen make amazing memes don't get noticed, while others with no talent whatsoever are not only getting noticed, everything they make no matter how bad does well. At first I thought it was all because of alt accounts but that is just one part of it. It wasn't until I took a long break myself then started posting again I realized something worse.
Since I hadn't been around commenting on funny memes I liked as I always have. Apparently I had missed my payments to the upvote mafia and the amount of upvotes my memes received suffered for it. If I hadn't had the same material do very well at other places I may have thought my stuff must not have been understood or very funny. So I decided to try an experiment. I spent a bunch of time commenting on everything I could find funny enough to give me an idea for a reply. Not being able even as part of an experiment to comment on stuff I didn't like still lol.
Sure enough in about a week my memes started doing well again like I'd magically started being funny again. So then I took another break even longer than the last one. Unfortunately I wasn't very surprised when I returned and my memes had become unfunny somehow. I realized there are roughly 10 people on this site now that upvote me whether I've been around to comment on their stuff or not. The rest it seems will only upvote me no matter how my memes are if I make it known to them I upvoted their stuff.
6 ups, 6y
That really angered me babe, I had never before cared about how many upvotes anything I made received. I've never commented on a single meme hoping it would help me get points or make somebody like me. If somebody made something I found funny I simply wanted to return the favor with a comment that I hoped would make them laugh in return. Why else would I spend a bunch of time photoshopping a comment to put on a meme of somebody I didn't even know? The most I ever hoped to get out of it was possibly a good meme idea as that person and I had a good time making each other laugh in a comment thread.
So when I realized that a bunch of people here refuse to comment on another persons meme unless they feel there is something in it for them, it was a huge disappointment. I don't get upvotes and comments from people that hit everything they can for points because I have a history of pointing them out for what they are and I like that lol. I just had no idea how many of the upvotes I've received on here had so little to do with how good I was at making memes!
So I'm left with the reality of the situation, my memes will only do good here if I spend a bunch of time making sure people know I will try and help theirs do the same. It completely took the fun out of commenting for me and there is no getting that back now. I'd rather post someplace nobody knows me where at least I know that how well something does is based on how good it is only.
I came here because I was tired of the memes I saw reposted all over facebook that people would like because their friend posted it. People on facebook have to like stuff their friends post or their friends hold it against them. The site encourages this behaviour by making sure you know every person that clicks like on anything you post.
If imgflip told you who upvoted your posts nobody would even comment anymore. Not needing to do so in order to let another know you upvoted them would make them pointless in the eyes of those unable to participate, and therefore appreciate how much fun comment threads can be.
They went and murdered my ability to just have fun commenting here anymore. Since this place has never been about making points to me I see no point in submitting anything here now. If I cared about points it might be worth it to sell my soul and comment a lot again so my memes would do better and I could get more of them. Take away the fun part though and I no longer see any point in those points ;)

I'm not having fun on here anymore either. I've stuck around for the few users left I've enjoyed communicating with. I would say only a handful are left. I've been here since February 2013 and until around the end of 2016, the site was fun.

Sad to see you go. I'll be on here just randomly posting memes, but that about it. I don't even know most of the top users on here. A bunch of females just started using it. Lol.
6 ups, 6y
Right now my state of mind is to never spend my time creating something to post here. I had planned to keep in touch with certain people and that hasn't changed I'm doing it right now lol. Maybe as time goes on I will repost some stuff here I've posted other places first I can't say for sure. I will never again let this site be the first to see anything I make though, my original content deserves to be posted where original content is appreciated, even if it sucks it sucks originally lol.
There are more cool people left than ya think, most of them just aren't on here very often anymore. I remember when I could log on to this place anytime day or night and always find somebody to swap comments with. Even before I was pissed at this place I'd felt like I was memeing in a ghost town a lot the past 6 months or so. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that even with how much the views have dropped around here that they are being exaggerated.
I've had multiple memes on reddit get 200-300 upvotes like they do at the top of the front page here with only 2000-3000 views when it takes ten times that many views to get that many upvotes here. I don't think anybody would believe the reason for that is people are nicer about upvoting things on reddit lol!
There is a limit to it though or something, my highest amount of views on anything over there to date is over 500,000, but that meme topped out around 550 upvotes. I wouldn't feel like I was being honest if I left that fact out. The contrast in the amount of views per upvote between the two sites is just something I've been trying to understand for a while is all.
I've always been suspicious of users here saying they are female, it being no big secret that females get a lot more attention among a group of us male geeks online. If I was giving somebody advice who didn't care a thing about being honest and wanted to make an alt account for points I'd definitely tell them to pretend to be female. The only person I am 100% percent positive is a female on this site is Lynch because we have exchanged pictures lol. Some I am around 90% sure of and some I know without a doubt are alts. You just never know online who you are talking to for sure, hell these days even in person some people make you wonder!
I think this site would be a lot better off if they got rid of the 7 day board. I have never put much stock in the 7 day as a list of people who are good at making memes personally.

Bwahahaha this meme has been out for days now and all of a sudden it gets pushed back to submission. Apparently my comments about the mods I wrote to you today must have hit a nerve with them. Of course I'm not surprised they chose to make it harder for people to find it and read it themselves. Only would have surprised me if they chose instead to actually have a discussion about it try to correct me where I'd gotten the wrong idea. Them pushing it back to submission like this only makes me even more sure they are a bunch of pussies who don't want everybody to figure out what I have ;)

This one had every sign of it being a mod. It was out for 4 days and it wasn't until I talked bad about the mods that it got sent back. Now I wouldn't be surprised if a butthurt memer that sucks up to the mods didn't flag it for their attention first. Or they would have probably never seen it lmao! I've got some real winners that follow everything I say with their spare time then act like they hate me. They love me their ego's just won't allow them to admit somebody is everything they wish they could be. So they hate the fact that they love me and love to hate me at the same time. It's sad but interesting to watch ;)

I hear ya, I lost both my grandfathers to cancer, one when I was around 6 and the other at 12. Both of them spent most of their last days in my room, I understand that my parents wanted to take care of them. They really affected me though especially the second time when I was older. When death comes close to me now I freeze up. I have only been to one funeral since I just don't handle it well and try to build walls around it.

We all deal with things differently. The pain of losing somebody close to you is intense. You can want to hold on to it not wanting to let them go. It's what you feel at first when every memory of them goes through your mind.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is not to let that pain ruin your happy memories. I've found that trying to block it out only makes it stronger. So instead I try to embrace it, let myself feel it and except that it is now a part of me and I can't control it. But I can get used to it until it's no longer the only thing I feel.

I don't know man, even I don't know the right words to say sometimes. I gave it a shot and that's not something I'm usually willing to try in these situations ;)

Take care of yourself brotha.

Right on, luckily writing usually works out better for me than talking face to face. My mouth tends to say stuff before my mind has really considered if I should or not lol.

If we'd been talking face to face I'd have intended to say something close to what I wrote. Only I probably would have messed it up then tried to cover for it with a joke or something else just as stupid.

I don't know bro lol. Some people even know how to find my memes before they feature. I've never wanted to know how so I didn't ask but it is possible. One thing I know for sure is a lot of people read my long ass comments lol. I don't know if they hate me or love me but they find that shit!

It's a lot like when dontbedouchey called out isayisay. Commented on a meme stating he was a cheater after it had been out all day and of course done well. That comment shot from the bottom of the comments straight to the top on his own meme. People know what is going on and they don't like it. They are just outnumbered by the imgbook mob and don't want to be seen agreeing with anybody that is rowing against the tide if you will ;) It took me being comfortable with my memes not doing good here because they do good elsewhere to speak my mind about reposts. I don't care if the imgbook crowd likes me or not. The friends I have that are still on here are all I care about and I expect them to tell me if something I make is out in left field. That's what a true friend does, they are honest with you. They tell you something needs work not to make you feel like shit, they tell you what you need to hear so you can become better. Socrates always had a special way of telling me he hated something I made that didn't piss me off lol. You've always been able to tell me you had no idea what I was talking about and we'd end up laughing about it anyway.

I've always been too busy either commenting, making my submissions, or photoshopping something to worry about what people are talking about on their comments. I guess the people that have no desire to try and create something have to find some way to pass the time on here. Reading all our comments and hoping they can find some way to stir up drama with them. I wonder if they even realize that their jealousy is making them not like people who spend their time trying to create reasons for people to laugh. Taking the time like we did learning about this is too hard for them, so instead they try to bring everybody down to their level.

I'll put it like this, they are the politicians and we are the comedians. Politicians live in a world of illusion they create by only listening to people that agree with them. Comedians create humor about the horrible shit politicians do then enjoy the laughter that shatters those illusions ;)
