I do that a LOT. I always find some good stuff that never seems to make it out into the main pages. I do want to add though, while browsing people's memes, if you decide to "borrow" an idea it's a good idea to give credit to the one whom you borrow from!

Good! So much gets lost with slow releases. I get frustrated quite often when I submit something I think should get good responses, only to see it pop out 3 hours after everything else and at 2:00am.As for "borrowed ideas, I can't say I'm a big fan. Inspired is something else altogether though.

When another user inspires (what I usually feel to be) a great meme idea, I always tell them. I get a kick out if when someone says I have inspired them, so I like to share the good vibes!
6 ups, 7y
Ditto! Inspiration comes from conversation in my opinion.

Yep, I'm relatively new here and well familiar with that happening. I know I've put out a few duds but, in my personal opinion, I've put out way more good ones.

But out of 55, only 5 have done well, with the rest middling to none.

Timing is tough. One tip I can give is not to sit on a meme. Post it as soon as you make it. If you have to remake the meme, if its one you wanted for the next day after using all submissions. Outside of that I have no clue on the submission/time to release equation. .

Yeah, the ones I post, I usually submit as soon as I make them, or take them out of my small library of ones I made in the past. I very rarely submit one that was originally just a reply to another post here, because they usually have no context.

Sometimes it works, Iguana Montoya was from a comment I made. I even tried to get the person I was talking with to use it.

Yep, sometimes, and I've posted one or two that worked, but usually I post freshly made ones.

I usually go to the comments when I get "meme block". You never know when another image will present itself when you are searching to improve one used in a comment.

The one thing everybody should know about this site is that a lot of upvotes do not make the meme better than it is. Neither does a small amount of upvotes mean the meme is not any good. Unfortunately upvotes here are not solely based on the quality/originality of a meme. Plus you have to get a decent feature time to be seen at all to start with.

I recommend trying your meme out on multiple audiences, some people here like to make multiple accounts to upvote their own stuff into looking good. I prefer multiple sites with an account on each. If for no other reason to test out different audiences and get a more honest idea of how well something I created really is.

Cue overly obvious "ain't nobody got time for that meme", lol.

But seriously, I understand your points, and they're all very true, but really, as I get older, I have neither the will, stamina, or desire - and in fact, not even the attention span - to run accounts on multiple meme sites. I'm a one-woman guy and a one-website memer.

In general I just like to piss and moan with like-minded people, just to help get it off my chest. Usually a simple "yeah, I hear ya bud" does wonders for me.

I was a one woman man until some other guy started taking credit for the orgasms I created for her. Next thing I knew she was asking to be reposted by everyone! She ended up going viral and now nobody will even let her go downvote on them.

In all seriousness though it takes very little time to submit something anywhere. To me it's like being a cook in a restaurant. I can make a great meal for the same table of fans that fill up on bread and cover the food in ketchup so it all tastes the same. Or I can serve any table that has fans sitting at it and some of them will actually taste the food and be happy to find something different than they had for lunch.

lol, but really, I appreciate the tips and all, but it's not that big of a deal to me, I won't be monetizing anything, and I'm not even all that good. It's mostly just for giggles, and maybe the occasional thrill of seeing a meme I made posted by a random stranger somewhere ;)

Whatever floats your boat man, I'm just sharing what I've learned is all. You don't have to listen to or believe any of it and I'm still cool with it. I know the odds are somebody who does feel like I do will come along and read it and maybe it will help them out a little.

All I can do is put my crazy out in the universe and hope that somebody somewhere can make sense of it all ;)

Oh absolutely, and like I said, I appreciate it all. I may put your tips to use sometime down the road, though my photoshop skills are severely lacking. The way it is right now, as I've gotten older, I've become more and more ADD. I can't even sit and watch a movie without pausing it every half hour or so to check here, or on FB, or read the latest webcomic, or play a few levels of bejewelled, etc etc.
1 up, 7y
I'm also very adhd but for me when I am photoshopping something it takes up all of my attention which is rare for somebody like us. I made my first million points here before I had a clue how to photoshop. It's something I taught myself through trial and error that has become more fun to me now than making memes. There is no schedule for this or even a right or wrong way to make them. All that matters is you enjoy the process of creating things the way you do it. When you are having fun you never have to work at becoming better you just do. Nobody buys a new video game and figures everything out the first time they sit down to play it. But if the game is fun and you enjoy playing it eventually you will figure it all out without really thinking about the how or why of it.

That's why I stress for people not to make these things for points. If you are having fun making them and keep doing it you can't help but become better at it. The first memes I photoshopped look horrible to me now but at the time I had fun doing it so I kept trying. Now I can hold my on in photoshop competitions I have just raised the level I compete on so that I can have fun while still learning from people better at it than me.

For me it's not fun without a challenge, for others a challenge isn't something they consider fun. We all have to find what it is about something we enjoy and stick with that so that it remains something we like to do. I can only tell people what it is I enjoy and why, when it comes to what another person finds pleasing that is something they can only learn about from themselves...

I know, right? It's so frustrating when you make a good meme that 'you sacrifice your files for' (I do that all the time) and nobody looks at it except from the almighty Dashhopes, who just makes everyone happy. And sometimes giveuahint.

Very true, once I learned to photoshop I remade one of John here's memes with photoshopped panels I felt added my own touch to it. The fact that I gave him all the credit in the title and I believe I even posted a link to his so people could see what I changed didn't stop it from making the front page. It did stop me from feeling like I had stolen his idea or reposted his meme because I gave him credit and used his creativity as fuel for my own.

It's true, if you like a user's meme, you're very likely to enjoy the rest of their work. It's usually a great way to enjoy a bunch of memes in a row.
