I've been to SLC once.

Me: What is that?
Local: Oh, that's the lake. You get used to it after a while.
Me: Damn. It smells like Satan's toilet backed up. I don't think I'd ever want to become noseblind to that.

It was the lake itself, according to a local. To me, it was enough to gag a maggot on a gut wagon.

I was driving up I-15, and started smelling it in West Jordan and it didn't go away until Brigham City. On the return trip I made sure I had enough gas that I wouldn't have to get out of my car anywhere near SLC.

Must have been really windy to stir up the lake enough to cause an odor. I lived in SLC for 6 years and can remember a bad odor from the lake only a couple of times.
