Crime exists in volumes. Crime isn't some single constant quantity that either exists or not. There's quantities of crime, based on how much you enforce laws that push back on it.

everyone does realize that the government and the real bad guys will always have bigger guns and more goons right? this entire debate is flawed from the get go. Giving lunatic teenagers guns doesn't keep you safer it just introduces MORE danger and then everyone buys more guns including the lunatics and then the NRA gets rich and kids die. You're not safer...you're just extra paranoid bc literally ANYONE can shoot you...hell those gay frogs I keep hearing about can probably buy a gun!

The number of hunters walking into the woods with guns every year is more numerous than any army in the world. Not sure how it makes the NRA rich. I'm not against raising the age limit and more thorough background checks. I'm somewhere in the middle of the opposing factions.

Oh you mean a city riddled with gangs, corrupt cops, and surrounded by a country in which guns of just about any type can be bought and shipped in under cover. Of course it's not going to work. It's set up for failure. But if you banned nationally certain types of guns and accessories, had permit to purchase laws, required insurance, stricter bars for those with mental health problems etc, yes then it would indeed work.

Making and moving guns is not like growing plants. Nor are they consumable. Those responsible for not heading the law can more easily be found. Not to mention many countries employ successfully gun control programs. It's basically been proven the more guns floating around the more people are injured and or are killed by them.
reply

Yeaaah... I was pretty much going to shut down his argument the same way; we're the ONLY country in the free world that has a massive school shooting (and mass shooting) crisis.

There's no excuse for common sense gun control. It's working everywhere else. It'll work here too. If we can get the lawmakers out of the NRA's pocket.

Shall I sharpen the blade on your cherry picker? You can't win an argument picking and choosing what words you want.

The number 18 was floating around, but it's not correct.

(I'm not saying there isn't an ongoing crisis. I'm just saying that number's wrong.)

It's also proven that the first step the socialist government does is disarm its people. Combine all the deaths of wars from 1900 up plus the disease that ensued, multiply that by three, and you almost reach the amount of deaths caused by communist governments killing their own disarmed peoples.

No shots fired... you mean without a "war", right? Right. I'm sure plenty of people were lined up and shot.

But communism is just like that. Imposed by a much larger country which eventually collapsed itself. The change into communism was bloody because it was a stupid idea that nobody wanted. The change out of communism was peaceful... because again, it was an idea everyone knew was stupid.

First off most governments with gun control are not like this. Second off guns or no guns these people were toast. Anyone who stood up to these regimes would be imprisoned and or killed. There is no way civilians can stand up to modern military and other agency forces. It was the mindset of the regime not lack of guns that caused such oppression.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
And you don't think it would be in the mindset of the regime to disarm their people first? It would make it a hell of a lot easier to do their corrupt work if their minions are not being shot at as much.

Fact is China, Russia, Germany all did this before they started rounding their people up and killing them.
reply
0 ups
It's an epipehnomenon not the cause. The cause is the mindset. Of course they want to control people as much as they could. They were and in some of the cases still are a tyranny. However it did not cause the mass deaths. Those would have happened regardless even if they had to have a fire fight with each armed civilian.

I think if you live in another country, you shouldn't really give your opinion on what Americans do here at home. If you think gun control (in many cases around the globe, complete gun control) is working, maybe you should take a look in such places like North Korea, Australia, Africa, and most of Europe.

Mass shootings don't happen there like they do here in the States, but before you go off about how that proves gun control works, you need to take a look at the actual reality of it. Mainly how every mass shooting that occurs here are in gun free areas like schools, concerts, churches, military bases....

Also, you need to look at what happens overseas in Europe. Bombings (suicide or otherwise) happen a lot there. In fact, they happen at an alarming rate compared to here in the States. Acid attacks also happen daily over there. If you aren't familiar with acid attacks, it's when a (usually a Muslim migrant) throws a vat of acid in a woman's face because they hate women having any type of freedom. That kind of crap doesn't typically happen here. I know in Texas, the perp would most likely be shot down.

You know, cause of that pesky little thing we call the 2nd amendment.

That's the thing though... there's no historical proof that everyone being armed armed is going to decrease gun violence. If anything, the proof is that more guns = more violence.

Looking for what? I asked a simple question. You could've just answered instead of continuing with the ad-hominem attacks. I'm not familiar with gun-free restaurants. I am, however, familiar with restaurants that welcome law enforcement and give them free meals to hang out at night as a deterrent, like the one a family member used to work for. I've also seen plenty with my own eyes welcome them and give them their meals on the house thanking them for their service.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. You're talking about a shooting that happened where there were no guns at hand.

And yes, guns in the hands of armed good guys will deter bad guys with guns.
2 ups
no it won't Those shooters blow their brains out most of the time, so I don't think they would be deterred by the chance of someone else blowing their brains out. That might be more convenient for them, if you think about it. It doesn't make sense that it would deter them in the slightest considering they probably already want to die if they are doing something so heinous.

A few points of correction. Bombings do not happen regularly in Europe, acid attacks do not happen daily. I know you have commentators in America that spew this rubbish out and dumb Americans believe them, but it's just not true but it keeps Americans scared and that's the point. (Americans really need to travel more)

Oh look, Texas! Shooter takes hostages in a Church, they manage to over power him and a man takes his gun. Police turn up and shoot the innocent man with a gun. Duh!

What part of 8.5 million do you not understand?

Idaho and Montana's combined population is what, c 2.2 million, a quarter of NYC? The Bronx alone has DOUBLE the population of the ENTIRE State of Montana, and half a million more than Idaho.

It is a known fact that per capita, not just those States, but the entire non coastal West has the highest violent crime rate in the USA. Thing is, with such a thinly spread (and partially BECAUSE of that) and small population, you hear about it less. No big bad boogie down looming down on scared tourists driving through.

Comprehension isn't a trait of the left, is it? And just to push a worthless agenda, too. Shame.

The reason it's safer in Montana is because there are less people that live there. Are you following along with me so far? The less people there are around, the less likely you'll be shot to death, robbed, [email protected], stabbed, looted, and burglarized. Still following me?

You are basing your claims that NYC is safer than Montana, on per capita statistics. I am not. The chances are much smaller you'll be a victim of gun crime or any violent crime in Montana than in NYC because there are far more people on NYC in a smaller space than there are in Montana.

Now if there were the same amount of people in Montana in the same amount of living space, Montana would be more dangerous. Follow me still?

And I don't give a crap what a troll (laonsite) has to say about anything.

assault weapons aren’t the only way to commit mass murder, the Virginia tech shooter murdered 32 people with HANDGUNS
1 up
At least you admit bumper stocks should be outlawed. But there are certain weapons that only the local authorities or military who are trained to use, should have and use. Period. There is a wide array of weapons available besides assault weapons. Those don't need to be in the hands of civilians. The days of "an armed revolt" against the government have gone and passed; you go ahead and get run over by a tank, slaughtered by a drone, or incinerated by a smart bomb.... I'm not going out like that. The only way America become a tyranny is if we succumb to the efforts of say Russia or China, and become their province or something.

But our military is the most powerful in world history. It ain't gonna happen.
1 up
I'm aware of this. You can't stop them all, but.... if you can make more lethal weapons harder to get, then you make the streets of America just a LITTLE less bloody. And since you brought up "3%", here's something to think about; NINETY-SEVEN PERCENT of America support some kind of gun regulations. So I guess you're in that "3%" group that doesn't.
0 ups
well duh, i support SOME regulations, like banning bump stocks for example, that is a good idea. But i hope you realize we don't need more gun control than we do now
reply

I know you are too much of a dipshit to understand, but the 2nd Amendment isn't for hunting. It is to make armed revolt by the people a possibility to keep the government in line. But seeing as how I've never seen you make a comment that wasn't toeing the party line, I'm sure you're all about the government taking full control and being able to do whatever it likes. And I have a hunting rifle as an EXAMPLE of appropriate arms to own and carry. Hell, even a shotgun isn't an issue to me. Pistols either. But these assault rifles you small-d***ed chumps insist on having don't need to be on the streets in the hands of civvies. And I'm a veteran who knows..KNOWS that's a stupid idea.

i'm not interested in arguing with anyone. i was just wondering why a gun at a gun shop cost a few hundred dollars and the same gun on the streets costs 40 bucks? how is that possible? there can't be that many stolen guns. I mean really, who would break into someones house who has a bunch of guns to steal them. you're more likely to get shot than make off with anything. so where do they come from?
