It is sad but when it does fall into the hands of a deranged or evil person it can do a disproportionate amount of damage.

Do you carry a loaded firearm everyday? Do you propose that everybody should? Would you want to live in a society like that?

Would anybody shoot people? They would know that they would immediately get shot, and seeing that it's almost impossible to get rid of guns it's not that bad of an idea

But how is that the gun's fault? It didn't tell them to do their deed or control them or corrupt them. How is this any different than blaming a a hunting knife when one person stabs another with one or blaming the cell phone when someone texting causes a deadly traffic accident? People have to be held accountable for their actions instead of placing the blame on a nonliving, nonthinking chunk of plastic and metal.

Once again you either won't or can't see the truth in a simple non partisan statement. Without the gun the deranged and or psychotic can only do limited damage. With the power that the gun bestows upon them they become mass murderers.

Your argument is based upon a false assumption, which is this; A person intent on killing a bunch of people finds himself unable to acquire a firearm, will abandon his goal and go home and watch Netflix instead.

You are completely right a killer will usually find a way to kill unless stopped in the act of killing

It is plainly obvious that you can kill thousands of people by flying an airliner into an office block and that you can kill 96 people by driving a truck through a crowded promenade in Nice. What those and similar atrocities have in common is warped ideology reinforced by planning aimed at a large non-specific target. The nature of the crime defines the target. The psychotic with a specific personal agenda will opt for the easiest path and as long they have ready access to lethal firearms then these crimes will continue. It would be naive to believe that lack of a gun would make a prospective perpetrator go home to watch the TV but it would greatly reduce the havoc that they could wreak.

Protecting yourself with a hand grenade may be lethal for innocent people nearby. A gun in the right hands will drop a homicidal maniac without collateral damage. Besides, if no law-abiding civilians have guns, what chance will we stand against criminals who don't give a crap about laws and would obtain weapons illegally anyway?

Why not make all pen illegal too?

While I do feel that parents not teaching their children the difference between right and wrong as well as the value of life is a huge part of the problem, forcing religion is not the answer. Everyone should discover their spiritual path on their own terms, whatever form that may take[if at all], as long as that path does not lead them to harm, harass, or belittle anyone.
